#4 Piston- cracked BOTH ring lands. Matt_95tgs, his bro, and I spent all day tearing down the motor, ripped out the head, the oil pan, and took out all the pistons. Found cracked ring lands on the #4. The other 3 pistons looked perfect, no crackes at all. Put those back in, and used one of Matt's old pistons from his old block, luckily he had 2 good ones that were not cracked. Motor runs great, but unfortunately, the intake cam seal is leaking like mad for some reason, so I'll have to rip that apart again :rolleyes I have some pics of the work we did, plus the nice new paperweight i have now :) I'll get some pics up very shortly..I was planning on rebuilding in a few months, but I just dont have the cash at the moment, so I had to get the car up and running for now. I'm almost thinking i can rebuild with new pistons/rings/rods with the block in the car. We took out all the pistons with no probs at all, the cylinder walls were in excellent shape, and I think a simple cylinder honeing is all it would take, and then get some stock size forged pistons, ect, to get me goin. Well, its just an idea..

yeah, yeah, yeah...i know :P Well here is what happens when you get detonation at 10+ psi of boost on stock pistons:

A very BIG THANKS to Matt_95tgs and his brother, Jay, for driving over an hour and half to come out to my place to give me a hand with the motor. You guys are great! We started this project at about 9:30 AM this morning, and didn't get the car started again to after Midnight! Only one parts run too :) More pics to come tomorrow...

Ughhhh I'm sooo damn tired hahaha (just got home at 2:15 am from Matt's). That sucks that that seal is a POS, but no biggy, we'll get it right some time this week. I cant believe we tore yer motor down, and rebuilt it and put it back together in one day... thats gotta be close to a record :7

Awesome work guys!! I am very impressed that you did all of that in one day. That HAS to be a new record. I guess it makes sense now that Tommyboy could tear his entire motor apart every weekend for a year or so ;)

What kind of compresion #'s are you showing now?
You guys can come over and do my engine anytime! :) It takes me a solid 16-20hrs to go from start to finish on that job (alone of course).
I thought they didn't make forged stock sized pistons?

i know je makes stock size forged pistons etc.. as long as your walls are cool you 'should' be able to use stock size piston... cool
Michael 99gs HRC Stage 2 Stage 3 process begins anyone got a 420a block thats not spun/head for sale?

Wow! You guys rock. Glad she's back together and running. At least you know that happened. Sad, but true, I think we can all agree, that our pistons can't handle 10 psi daily--8 psi max, safely.

More pics for ya all....
OUCH! that had to hurt..

Head getting ready to be pulled off...

A first look of the pistons and cylinders..

Ohh what a mess...matt_95tgs's arms there hehe...

Head off, pistons out, parts everywhere :)

A pic of the block with the pistons out..

Pic of the crank case area, crank...

Look directly in the middle of this picture....BOOOO!!

Here I am, XtremeRS, putting the good pistons back in...

Wow, what a job! Man my whole body is aching :) But we really did have fun. Tearing apart engines is pretty cool. Cant wait to for the next time when forged internals go in.

My piston was the exact same way and I blew it at 8 psi. The stock pistons just canmt hold up for long under boost. Next time you take off the head use some arp head studs to put it back together.

Weisco makes standard forged pistons for the neon which i use 8:5 compression.

I prob wont run much boost at all, to be safe for now. I will be moving into a nice little house i just bought, with a good 2 car garage, which is where the clipse will be stored for the winter months, and thats when i will rip everything apart again :) I just need to wait for some cash to come back to me at the end of this month, to buy my winter beater car. I'm still not sure how i want to go about the rebuild, but money is def a concern, so we will see. Matt_95tgs is willing to lend me his block to build up for my car, so i may go that route, have that machined, then i will assemble it and swap it into my car, dont know...Oh well, 10 psi felt good while it lasted..for now anyway :P I'll be back running strong for the springtiime, no doubt. Maybe a custom fuel setup too, something toying around in my mind, hehe..
