Your boost pressure hoses don't get hooked up to the intake manifold, they should never see vacuum. I'd say the way the directions say sound right, it just runs the lines though the boost controller so it can bleed off the excess pressure.

Wait a mintue. Since when should your vac lines not be connected to your intake mani? I have a vac line running from the intake mani to my BC then to my WG. I was told to do this by several prominent turbo guys on this board. Are you telling me that they are wrong? If you think about it, where are you going to get a more accurate boost reading, off the turbo, or off the PRESSURIZED manifold? I wonder. :wary

YOu are right B. The BC goes on the vacuum/"boost" line between the intake manifold and the Westgate.

So, if you run a line from the intake mani to the boost controller, then to the WG, what do you do with the line coming off the turbo? I thought I would see the most accurate pressure coming off the turbo since it's right there at the source.

the problem with runnig a line from the compressor is that if you have an ic you will not c the pressure loss and there fore your engine will be gettin a few psi less than the turbo is putting out. By running the line from the intake manifold the westgate will open whe the mani is pressurized to the desired ammount, therefore cancelling any psi loss from the intercooler.
when you run the line from the mani all you have to do is buy a plug (to replace the fitting for the vacuum hose)for the compressor so that you don't have a huge boost leak.

Well from what i have always known is that the MBC should hook inline on the vac/boost line coming from the turbo housing to the wastegate. At least thats how it is on the Hahn kit. Doesnt make a whole lot of sense to run a whole new line from the intake to the wastegate.. The pressure at the turbo is what you really want to regulate, right at the wastegate. Before i had the boost controller in there, there was just one vac/boost line going from the compressor side of the turbo housing, right to the wastegate acuator. Then i just cut that line in half, put the MBC in at each cut end, and thats it. I'm not too familiar with the starr kit, but i think its the same anyway..

Okay, I agree that the pressure reading coming from the compressor housing of the turbo may not 100% accurate because of the pressure drop from an intercooler, especially a front mount, but that shouldn't affect tuning.

Say the hose goes from the compressor housing through the MBC to the WG and the pressure from the housing is 9psi, but at the intake mani you only see 8psi because of the pressure drop from the IC. You still have your boost gauge tapped from the intake mani, so you'll know that you're only getting 8psi to the engine. So just turn the MBC up and you'll get the boost level you're wanting. What's the real benefit of running another line from the intake mani??

true, if you want to have to deal with remembering that and taking that into account everytime you get a boost leak. running it from the intake manifold is not something that has to be done. but it gives you one more thing you don't have to worry about, as all the readings will be exact.
no need to remember that you had to turn your mbc 1.5 psi up or whatever. It just makes things simpler and thus more efficient IMO.

Okay, that's cool. I might consider running a vacuum line from the intake mani when I get a FMIC. But for now I doubt I have enough of a pressure drop to worry about it.

I just had mine installed last week. I hooked it up the usual way--the vacuum from the turbo compressor to the turbo xs IN, the OUT from the boost controller to the turbo's wastegate. It works fine.

ok i have both the silinodes that you adjust the psi from all the way clock wise and it shows like 7 psi on my gauge iam only a stage 1 so what is going on with it shouldent it be at 5 psi?

Were you only seeing 5psi before you hooked up the MBC? With the MBC open all the way, you should still see wastegate pressure.
