In my never ending ordeal. Taking off one of the three studs to replace my gasket, the stud broke with part still left in the thread (the one closest to the manifold). Sure you can drill and get a special bit and out it comes, right. Well I tried. Not enough space the only alternative is to take the turbo off the manifold and drill it out that way. Well this is something I don't feel confortable doing and I can't go back to the shop that installed it. What can I do?...

Glad I'm not alone?:wary

How hard a job? Is it as easy as taking off the 4 bolts to the manifold and disconnecting the oil lines, intake, ICP? Will I need a new gasket from the turbo to the manifold? I'm contemplating it cause I really don't want to pay someone to do this if I might I have to do it again in the future...x(

Happened to me, paid my mechanic to do it, cost like 20 bucks or something, he ghetto rigged something to where it won't break again. Don't know exactly what he did.

its not really hard to remove the turbo etc.. takes time.. the 4 bolts holding the turbo onto the manifold are in a tight area, i believe its a 14mm to remove? i forgot.. it took me a good hour or so to remove it all.. yah just got to remove the oil line to the turbo and return to the pan, intake, and those 4 bolts.. is your stock dp welded to the hrc dp or are you using the clamps? that will also make a difference in time removal etc.. the exhaust gasket can be bought at autozone or so just bring in your old one... hmmm
cool

Can you say off hand WHY the downpipe stud broke?? How old was it? I'm asking because I'm taking my downpipe off tomorrow to wrap it with thermal wrap, but I sure don't want to break off a stud because I'm going to a big DSM meet in Denver Sunday and I don't want to miss it because I can't get my downpipe back on!!

Thanks!

Let's see. Turbo kit when on end of June so thats...3 months. From pics I have, the bolt had fallen off at least a month and a half ago. The gasket burned to hell last weekend. So bolt must have been afected by the heat since then. A suggestion: unscrew one bolt half way, then the next a half way and so on. So if you need the car soon, don't take the risk, just wait till afterwards. Cool. Later.
