31805, Has anyone used this head gasket? Posted by Dirty, Sep-25-02 12:07 PM

I am planning on boosting soon with the HRC Stage 2, and I came across this and it sounds nice but I haven't heard anything about it before.

I though the same thing. But some guys here on the board said to stick to a MLS head gasket instead. I don't think anyone has tried it yet though.

lotta guys on the neon boards run the TTI headgasket...theyre also running more boost. didnt see any complaints on it either.
supposedly, some poeple run upwards of 13-15psi w/ stock internals using the tti headgasket

Thats pretty cool. I am gonna build the bottom end but I figured I could just take my time and still have some good HP until then. Now I just gotta get some boost. If anyone else has any info on this please post.

TTI has had some problems lately in regards to product delivery and other customer satisfaction issues.
I'd monitor the Neon boards a tad before doing any business with them. People appear not to be happy with TTI over there.

Thanks for the warning man.
Also, and this is not because of the warning, cause I was going to ask this now anyway. Does anyone else make a head gasket like this for our cars?

Im ordering that gasket within the next week or so...I'll let you know how it fits then. :)

Do these lower your comp.?

31815, RE: TTI Racing Posted by PowerEclipses, Sep-28-02 12:10 AM
no, its the stock head gasket

31816, RE: TTI Racing Posted by Dirty, Sep-28-02 03:08 AM
Thats what I thought so I was just wondering why he said use those. I will use one if the TTI gasket doesn't sound to good, but I just thought it would be pretty cool to be able to run 13-14PSI until I can rebuild another bottom end.

For the last time, go to a dodge dealer and get the factory MLS head gasket. I believe this gasket will handle anything you can throw at it. I have boosted mine to 21psi so far with zero problems. I think it was about 40 bucks. .

OK. So this gasket will allow me to run 15psi on stock internals? I'm not worried about how well a gasket will hold up I was talking about lowering the comp. with this gasket cause they claim you can run 15psi on a stock bottom end.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. I was just talking about the capability of the gasket. IMO I would not trust stock internals past 10 or 11psi. I also used copper gasket spray instead of the mopar stuff(which was crazy expensive). I think the 15psi claim is a little optimistic, but I don't design car engines or parts for a living, so what do i know. Anyone else have something to add to the 15psi claim?

think it was said that the rods start bending at 13psi stock that is. It was that guy in the yellow talon, you know the one thats always putting in rods and pistons, no offence.

31821, RE: TTI Racing Posted by DarkOne, Oct-02-02 05:56 AM
i believe he was running 16 psi when he bent rods, but he was also running at a 1/4 mile track when it happened. I personally hit 20psi a few times on stock internals for very short durations while having wastegate problems and did absolutely no damage - it ran like a champ for 8 months afterwards with prefect compression (for a high milage 95, anyway)

31822, RE: TTI Racing Posted by RxR_Eclipse, Oct-02-02 06:17 AM
I beleive that this head gasket will allow a larger margin of error...shoot I have gone through 2 engines from boosting two much on stock internals (good thing stock pistons are cheap). I am getting this to make sure that I do not blow another engine. I am also putting in larger injectors and an intercooler to keep me @ safe levels.....I still will be only running about 5-7 psi, but will feel better with compression #'s in the 170 range. if your wondering engine #1 went due to the my not paying attention to my super afc...(-30 lean at 4k and timing retard blew the first engine), and engine #2 went due to a bit too much boost...(15+psi for about 5 seconds, the little rubber hose that goes to the wastegate came off :(). I actually heard alot of rattling noise that time.
Bottom line is this gasket will lower your compression #'s enough to make boosting safer than if you didn't have it. I have checked with a bunch of neon guys using it and they swear by it, the only thing they don't like is the wait for it(usually not over a week).

31823, RE: TTI Racing Posted by Dirty, Oct-02-02 08:32 AM
:) All this sounds good to me(except you guys that fucked up your engines). :-( Just wondering, what comp ratio do the gst's have, and how do our internals compare with theirs other than comp.? If we had the same comp. would our internals hold up as well as theirs?

|
31824, RE: TTI Racing Posted by Chamuko, Oct-02-02 09:33 AM
I dont think so, sure our engines take boost nicely. The factory 4g63's internals are a bit stronger right? and and they do have considerably lower compression then us.
|
31825, RE: TTI Racing Posted by dsmlights, Oct-02-02 01:31 PM
yah well 4g63 actually have 8.6:1 the second gens and first gen have 7.1:1 if i am correct. This compression allows them to hold over 20psi of boost and up to 450 hp to wheels before getting internals. I envy them for that, they do not have to do internals unless going over 450. I really think the TTI racing HG is awsome looks great and way better than stock. I also think it could probably hold the 15 psi since they state that will lower the compression 8.6:1, but what i am not ok with is that it depends on what turbo becuase if you have a t25 or 14b turbo ok good then most prob it will hold that much boost. If one has like a t3/t4 or a super 20g i doubt it will hold the 15psi becuase its too much air flowing through.
I believe that what blows engine is amount of air going in the engine not PSI poot into it but that is just me.
Can anyone else comment on this???
thank you

31826, RE: TTI Racing Posted by RxR_Eclipse, Oct-02-02 02:03 PM
Of course a larger turbo will make more "volume" of air move. Hence a t25 that flows 15 psi @ 350cfm is not as effecient as a 16G flowing 15psi @ 500 cfm.... I just threw those #s out there as an example, I have NO idea how much either of them flow. (the T25 being obvioulsly smaller) Anyone care to verify my thoughts?

31827, RE: TTI Racing Posted by Dirty, Oct-04-02 05:43 AM
So overall, do you guys think this head gasket is worth a try?
Just something else I was thinking about, what if you rebuilt the bottom end with an 8.6CR and still used this head gasket. Do you think a 7.6CR would be a good idea?

|
31828, RE: TTI Racing Posted by JasonESi_T, Oct-04-02 07:11 AM
I think it's worth it if you can:
1) GET IT from TTiracing. (like I said above, things aren't going so well with them right now.)
2) You can't afford to put in the forged internals under any circumstances.
IMO, if taking off heads and re-doing timing belts is a piece of cake for you, then give it a shot. However, if doing such labor doesn't sound like it's an easy job, I would consider holding off until you can afford the upgraded internals.

I have that headgasket but got the 3 stage metal. I'm gonna boost soon if i can get this damn smic so i really haven't tested it. but as soon as i'm boosted i'll let you know.
