31765, factory fpr on my 96 rs?
Posted by 510eclipse, Sep-25-02 05:12 AM
can somebody please tell me where this is. i am finally getting around to installing my injectors and sfmu, and i even bought a chiltons book so i figured i wouldnt have to ask you guys a new question every 2 minutes, but the damn book shows the fpr on the 95-98 non turbo on the end of the fuel rail. but it isnt there on my car. and i really dont want to run a fuel line or a vacume line all the way from under my backseat through my firewall into my engine bay. i figured i could bypass the stock fpr wherever it is, and take the line going into the fuel rail and route it into the sfmu first and then from the sfmu into the fuel rail. because this would regulate the flow right before the fuel rail. and then of course a vacuum line to the nice little tree that already has an open spot for a line. would this work out correctly? tia folks. the car is in pieces right now and im not putting it back together until i get this headache out of the way.

You can buy a 95 fuel rail and with a little modification (Corbins page) you can mount the SFMU up front. I have a 95 fuel rail for sale if you want it. jeff@evulflea.com, PM me, or IM me.

Your stock fpr is underneath your back seat. It is in the soft line that runs from the pump to the stock hard line. You have to get at it from under the car in front of the rear left wheel well (looking at the car from the front). What you need to do is to run a hard line from the engine bay back to the tank for a return line. Then you can just run a return line from the test port on your fuel rail to the "in" port on your sfmu. Then run the "out" port on your sfmu to the return line you just ran back to the tank. The other port on the sfmu is for a fuel pressure gauge. I know someone has the HRC insturctions for this online, but I can't remember who. I'd search for it.

Hooking up the sfmu the way you are describing it will regulate the pressure before it gets to the fuel rail. That is wrong, and will not work properly.

well you guys are awsome. it looks like i have two choices, wait for a 95 fuel rail from EvuLFleA or rig up my fuel system like matt_95 suggested. im an impatient guy and i want this done, so i may just run the return line and go that route, but i have one quesiton, how am i supposed to run the return line into the tank? how am i supposed to tap it? haha without getting metal shavings inside of course.

*edit nevermind, my fault...the hard line would tap into the soft line in the back, not directly to the actual tank*

i have another question... will the vortech SFMU fit right where my craptech fpr fit?

I can snap a few pics of mine this weekend if ya want.

*Finally got my login and pass.. woohoo!

Anyway, I am having the same problem. Would it be possible to place the FMU in the back and mount it around where the fpr is? That way you can run soft line with the soft line. That would be a lot easier than running hard fuel line.

By the way, you guys are all bad asses.

Since we're on the topic, I'm trying to find the fpr on my 96 eagle talon. Am I correct in that if it were located on the fuel rail, it would be attached on the very end that points toward the right (passenger) side of the car? Otherwise, it would be under the rear seats?

I'm trying to determine which fuel system I have, with respect to HRC turbo kits, and I was told I need the "old" fuel system kit if my fpr isn't on the fuel rail.

Old fuel system has the stock FPR attached to the passenger side end of the fuel rail. You will also see a vacuum line going from the intake manifold to the FPR. There is also a return line that goes from the driver side end of the fuel rail back to the fuel tank.

New fuel system has the stock FPR mounted under the car next to the fuel tank on the passenger side. There is no vacuum line running to it. There is also no return line running from the rail back to the tank (return line just goes from the FPR back into the tank).

Question for you...your sig says "1996 Eagle Talon DL". I was not aware of a "DL" in 1996. I believe they made a base model without designation...just called "Talon". First generation (1989-1994) used the DL designation, I believe. Am I missing something?

Thanks a lot. Looks like I got the two confused.

Ah, that would explain all the confused looks at parts counters when I say I have a DL :P

I'm sure you're correct. I put DL because I read on the 1000 questions faq that base model Talons had the DL designation...but I now realize that they were probably only referring to 1g when they said that. Thanks.
