31722, Star Turbo Kit Fuel Limit Posted by HadesOmega, Sep-24-02 03:24 PM
Well haha just for fun and to get my car smog ready (failed the idle test) I disable my airtex inline pump so I would only be running on my stock fuel pump. Boy was it WAY quieter :)
Anyway remember how my car ran super rich, haha it doesn't ne more it runs more like SUPER LEAN now! I played around with it and 2nd and 3rd gear by the time it gets to 2500 RPM the ratio is lean already and goes off the gauges scale. When I floor it goes to full green then at 2500 just plummets. At 4th gear I can floor it for awhile and it'll stay green them when it starts building boost to about 4psi it leans out again and that's that. Haha I hope I'm not messing up the engine with all this experimenting, I do lift off the throttle after like 3 seconds it runs lean. The EGTs stay around 1200 haha so you could imagine how quickly that sucka goes lean. I'm gonna leave it like this until I fill up again haha so I can see what mileage I'll get :P
So there ya have it: Star Stage 2 Stock fuel system: Injectors and pump w/ Vortech FMU (the one that comes with the star kit I forget the disc ratio like 12:1 or something ne1 know?) capable of running 4 psi of boost

12:1 disc is installed with the star kit.
I would stay out of boost if I was only using the stock pump only. Even though you only use it for short bursts, you are running lean momentarily. Your egt might not have time to react. If you had an autometer race probe, you would get a more accurate reading.

Yep that's prettym much what I did. I got Autometer Pyrometer reacts pretty quick. I'm sure while all this crap is happening the computer is pulling timing and all this other crap hehe. I should bought a lower disc long time ago haha. oh well gonna rebuild we'll see wassup with the af ratio after that :)

Pyrometer kit is not fast reacting. The autometer egt with street probe is much faster and accurate. The race probe reacts even quicker.
If you still have stock injectors you need to keep the 12:1 disc.
I am having a hard time figuring out what you want out of this post. Better gas mileage? to run leaner or hotter?
So far your car has held up to abuse, I do not see why you want to blow her up.

nah it was just for fun post. Just incase peeps are intersted in knowing. My car has run super rich ever since I got it. I know that's bad for power and sensors and stuff. But the reason I did it was to lower my idle emissions so I can go smog and pass. I passed the 2500 RPM but the idle I failed most likely because of that crazy ass pump. Well as you can see without a stronger pump that 12:1 fmu doesn't cut it either hehe....
I if I weren't going to rebuild in a couple month I would buy a disc kit for my FMU to lean it down bit. What's that recal kit they have that has a buncha discs on it? If that can really change it to all those different ratios might be worth getting :)

I have a question about the Autometer EGT's since we're touching on the subject.....I have the Pyrometer EGT and probe, which does work fairly well, but I know it does not react as fast as others. Can I buy a street or race probe and use it with the Pyrometer gauge? Is it just the probe that makes it slower, or the gauge itself??

I havent' a clue but Turbotrix said that the one I bought was better than the EGT one with the black box and stuff. Cuz I asked them if they could sell me a an EGT gauge (not the pyrometer cuz I think pyrometer sounds ghey haha) and they said they coudln't do it cuz they were different and the pyrometer only came in a kit and was better than the EGT gauge. So there ya go hope that helps you out a little.
