31056, HRC Stage 2 kit...
Posted by KougarZ28, Sep-13-02 06:54 AM

I've been looking into Turbo kits for awhile now and the HRC Stage 2 kit seems to be the best kit for my money and for the performance I'm looking for. I wanted to get your opinions on what other modifications you think would be necessary for supporting the kit (not blowing up my engine.) The only mods I plan on doing with the kit as of right now are complete catback, spark plugs and wires, and boost controller(not sure which one I want, looking for input) to monitor everything. So please feal free to respond and let me know what kind of mods I should look into to keep my engine life up, with the new addition of this kit. Thanks in advance for your replies.

If your only planning on a stage 2 kit for now you don't need the boost controller. A turbo timer might be useful, but not necissary, I've also heard it's a good idea to have an extra exhaust manifold gasket for the intall, just in case.

Ok.. so I'll pick up those 2 gauges.. shouldnt be hard to find.. then the question is where can I get the super fmu and hrc mapper, for a good price?
The other question I had is how hard is the installation of the turbo timer, if I do decide to pick up one of those too?

As far as the turbo timer installation goes. It's easy! I just installed mine today.
Here's the basic lay-out of the install:

1) Remove the three screws that hold the steering column cover on.
2) Unplug the blue ignition plug.
3) Take the HKS harness and plug the disconnected blue ignition plug into one side of the HKS harness, and plug the other end of the HKS harness into where you disconnected the blue ignition plug.
4) Plug the white plug from the Turbo Timer into the white plug connected to the HKS harness.
5) Find a ground, and ground the black wire that comes out of the Turbo Timer.
6) Take the gray wire and route it thru the center console and crimp it into the parking break wire. There's only one wire coming off of it so it's pretty easy to determine which one it is.
7) Take the other end of the gray wire and plug it into the gray wire which comes out of the turbo timer.
8) YOU'RE DONE.. unless you have a factory alarm, then you have to do some other things, but it's pretty simple.

Depending on the extent your wanting to go to. I just recently blew my head gasket and the car only has 62,000 miles on it. And that's with no performance mods at all. You might wanna call Klimetic Gaskets and order part #C5497. That's the gasket Hahn recomends and the same one they're using in their 700HP+ Neon

Alright.. sounds pretty simple, I think I'm going to go ahead and order the HRC stage 2.. I live in Mass so I'm not sure if the time of year is that great for the install because its only 2-3 months from winter.. maybe I'll wait till after winter to buy/install the kit and start getting all the other stuff now.. (catback, gauges, timer..etc)

What's up with the super fmu and the hrc mapper.. i've heard alot of the hrc mapper for the missing link but what does it do and where can I get it? I didnt see it on the hahn site?

Thanks.. (I'm going to get a pic of my car up in a couple days)

winter dont make a difference. Actually I thought winter was better because you fel the most power because of the dense COLD air. go ahead. I'm getting mine really soon.

Well I am pretty good at installs if I have instructions.. I took out the engine in my friends S10 and helped him with the supercharger... but that is completely different than a turbo system.. So I will probably need a hand from someone that has done one before.. Right now I'm looking at buying it the day after christmas. ( 3 months ) If you've done one before (proDMD) I would pay you to help me do the install.. Lemme know..

I'm buying the exhaust in a couple days.. Greddy Evolution and I will probably get the smaller stuff like the Vortech SFMU and the missing link then too, just so its out of the way.. then the day after christmas when i have 3gs ill order the stage 2... Is there anything else i'm missing that I can do for cheap mods.. like injectors, fuel rail.. anything liek that .. which may give me alittle more HP?

get some new plugs and wires for when you go turbo, you can get a bored TB and UDP that would help now and for when you go turbo..BTW I have never done a turbo install..I wanted to maybe come check it out to gain the experience so I could do my own if I deside to go that route, but as of now im saving for a WRX
