30555, thinking of a boosted 2.4L under the hood ? read this Posted by alain95i4, Sep-05-02 02:07 PM
the OEM PT cruiser turbo pistons/rods are available now from the dealer, price is ridiculously low and it will not stay at that price for long Reason beeing: this is not a dealer's part oficially yet so you're cutting big on intermediate markups
Call your dealers or browse other boards to find how much you could save, ... :)
A few peoples from ASOG has ordered them, including me, and from Neon boards too

Still $52 each or have them been updated?
For $52 I MIGHT buy some just because even if I don't use them I can still sell them later :)

are these pistons forged already? how much HP or how much boost will they support? The 2.4l is a good possibility in the future for me. I would like to know what the real deal is on these before I go ahead and buy them.

I spoke to a guy named Robert in Michigan. He is a parts mgr. and gave me a RIDICULOUS $$$ quote!!!!! They must be forged and he didn't have the specs for the pistons. He did mention that the 'Neon Guys' were using them for increased compression! Man, when he quoted the price, I ordered them on the spot! U can't miss this fellas! 8-)

30562, RE: 2.4L turbo stock internals Posted by Kirby, Sep-06-02 08:29 AM
so they went from $52 a piece to $168 each in a couple of hours? are they forged will they hold 25-30 psi of boost?

30563, RE: 2.4L turbo stock internals Posted by dsmlights, Sep-06-02 08:40 AM
yah are they low compression if so so ic an get some asap man 2.4 low compression turbo how good is that :) heheheeheheheh

Some places are $150 some $50 ish.
I called a place in Tennessee and got $52 each. I don't think they are forged but will handle probably 15psi.
I REALLY want to know if these will work with a 2.0L. I don't want to touch that 2.4L but might if I can not use these.
I want to know if it fits because I can actually afford this and my school rebuilds for free. (tech schools)
Well, what I have learned is that they are around 7.8:1 and also the rods are too long for the 2.0. I "think" you could use the pistons with some other rods but I do not know for sure.
Also, what do our stock rods handle? This wouldn't be too bad to run on stock rods if you could get 10-14 psi.

30565, RE: 2.4L turbo stock internals Posted by dsmlights, Sep-06-02 08:46 AM
well these will work on 2.0 with a lil mods right. If so who can make 2.0 a 2.4 engine and how much are the forged piston 2.4...
|
30566, RE: 2.4L turbo stock internals Posted by admin2, Sep-06-02 09:26 AM
they won't work with a 2.0L
They should be a direct drop in for the 2.4L however..

dopeee, i was making plans alredy. So really our engine can they be made any bigger in L size ? what should one oversize the engine .20 or .40 ???
thanks

i bet there Mahle pistons... forged pistons just make noise for the factory to use.

>i bet there Mahle pistons... >forged pistons just make noise for the factory to use.
What I know from all the sources combined together 1 they are cast pistons 2 they are cast rods 3 the pistons are Mahle based on the old 2.5 pistons 4 the rods are the old 2.5 rods 5 the pistons are a better variation of the mexican 2.4 tubo pistons with a bigger valve pocket 6 they are low compression 7 the 2.5 pistons and rods are knowned to take severe amount of beating

so it really does not matter for pep with 2.0 since we could not use them :(

Considering that for less than $250 if you shop carefully you could get true turbo piston and turbo rods, built to take many psi, for $400 more you have the full gasket set, bearing sets, a used head and a used oil pan add around $500 for a 2.4 used but good that doesn't need a reboring and for almost the same price as a howell rebuilt kit you have a complete 2.4 stage III, put that engine under your hood, sell your 2.0 and cash back $400 for it and you're done total possible cost less than $800 for a Stage III ready with 20% displacement gain, that is also a torque monster
check that for a preview of the potential of the 2.4 http://www.asog.net/bbs2/viewtopic.php?topic=28183&forum=29&11

You try to press the pin out of a stock iston/rod set. It's not easy to do without breaking the piston.
I say that JE's would still be easier/cheaper to do. With these cars, it isn't so much the stock components, it's the management system the tunes it - bad tuning cracks pistons.

Alain, thanks for the heads up on this! I ordered my pistons/rods on friday for $37 apiece. Thats just too good of a deal to pass up. I am definitely going the route that you outline (PT piston/rod, junkyard 2.4, sell my 2.0). Probably shave the block/head to bring the compression up to the high 8's. This setup will fit exactly into my goals (quick spool, good torque, good power, low $$$). My goals aren't too lofty, so this works well.

Corbin, where did you order yours from?
|
30575, RE: 2.4L turbo stock internals Posted by Corbin, Sep-08-02 06:58 AM
I ordered from Forum Chrysler in MI. I got my transfer gears from them earlier. Thats the place Bob Kise works at. They've probably raised thier prices by now. I think we just caught some dealers unaware before they had figured out their markup. I'm still expecting them to call me back and say they can't honor that price. If I can actually get away with this, I'll have a great head start on my engine.

Well, even at $55 its a steal. I search google for "dodge parts dealer" and got a million car dealers. There should be one that hasn't changed price yet. Graceland Auto said $52 each.
