30435, Stage 3 Kit with what size rims Posted by freddy_00_69, Sep-03-02 08:41 AM
I am getting rims by the end of the year(December) and my stage 1c kit is going to be upgraded to stage 3 then, too. I want 17 inch rims but want to know is there alot of people running low et's on 17's or is everyone running with 16 inch rims? Please help me decide b/c i am getting drag radials for them and want to be able to beat people on the street and at the track without having to worry about heavy rims. I would appreciate any advice and know how you guys are running since i see some 13's et and other good low times.

I think 17 inch rims will be fine. I've made drag runs with 16" and 17" rims, and there's not much difference. Supposedly, you could run .100 of a second quicker with 16's than 17's, but if you're not a very good driver (like me), it probably will not make much difference. It does "feel" a little different when you have 17's on as opposed to 16" rims. I, personally like wider 16" rims with wider tires. The car seems to "feel" a little quicker. It is probably all in my head.

You can buy a 19in rim that weighs 16lbs You can buy a 16in rim that weighs 22lbs You can buy a specific16in tire for SIGNIFICANTLY less than it's 19in taller twin. :-)

I ran my times with my 17's on the front. I did have the BFG G-force drag radials on though....but I wouldn't reccomend daily driving on those tires because I only got 2K miles out of them. They stuck pretty good though :) Unfortunately, they are your only option if you want to run drag radials on anything bigger than a 16" rim. If you are OK with 16's, than I say you get the Nitto drag radials....they will actually last a bit(teadwear of 100, compared to 00 on the G-forces).

thanks for the advice, i think i am going to go 17's with the nitto drag radials and if anything i can always put my 16's back on and sell the 17's.

Don't go with anything over 225 tire. The torque steer is crazy!
