Okay, I get my FMU back from Vortech after it was repaired. During the install I was pulling on the fuel line to the regulator (OUT to the fuel rail). Keep in mind that my FMU is right under the car near the tank. The next morning on the way back from PT I decide to see how well it worked. I go into fifth and punch it at 2.5K. I;m steady looking at the A/F gaage as it cycles and then I feel the car lose power and the gauge goes Lean. Then I start to smell fuel, I look in my rear view and I'm spewing fuel all over the place. I pull over and it turns out the line has a slit near the end of it - so I cut that piece off and reattach it - no prob. Then I start going up a hill - Bam! Happens again..I pull over and this time it's a bigger slit in the fuel line..Fuck!..I cut and reattach 'damn line is getting shorter' My car then stumbles to the gas station cuz I've just lost a 1/4 tank and I'm below the E. I get gas and drive home - I push the gas to 1/2 throttle and AGAIN!..My fuel line rips and the slit is almost the entire length of the line (8in). Now my car is stranded near my house and I hafta get some fuel line to replace it (10 min. max) Point of the story is that you should check your connections to your FMU and make sure the line is not deteriorated. Your fuel lines are a vital part and those rubber hoses that flow anywhere from 50-120psi of fuel could be a weak part in the chain.

I'd like to add: make sure you never use low pressure hose intended for carbureted applications. The way the hose above split is very suggestive of low pressure hose.

EFI hose is different, and should not burst below 250 PSI as per SAE spec. Stick with a name brand like Gates or Dayco and you can't go wrong!

I had the exact same problem the other day. I was just upgrading my fuel hose to SS braided and discovered that the return fuel line was all cracked. I mean, if you squeeze the hose, the cracks actually open up. When the turbo kit was originally installed, some probably used a regular fuel line, instead of the EFI type.

and also it could be of lots of vibrations by those hoses that's causing the small slits, like when you tighten the clamp hard enough that the vibrations starts making it cut the hose. i would ziptie the hell out of all those lines so it doesn't vibrate. samething happened to me but once i did that it stopped.

I just finished my turbo install and had started my car a couple of times & revved it to check my gauges. I was going to check something, started the car & about 3 seconds after it started POP.... SPLAT! the hose from the Accel pump to the hard line split at the curve! Luckily I had some extra hose left from the kit & it happened in my garage. Put another section in, start 'er up and go check the hose while the car's on and it's already ballooning!

Guess I'll be going to NAPA tomorrow to pick up some new hose!

Because the *CORRECT* rubber (nylon reinforced EFI fuel hose, actually) hoses are designed to withstand up to 250PSI.

I see it's an old post but I'll throw in my 02. When installed my HRC kit I ran all steel braided line. It was a bit pricy, but I've never worried about it. I've *tried* to always have the do-it-right-the-first-time approach.
