But why is it better to have an auto tranny (compared to a manual) when you have a turbo?

Well, for one you can handle more boost off of the line. But, you also don't lose as much boost when it shifts gears as compared to the 5-spd. And, if I remember correctly, the auto can handle more power.

the only benefit would be in not losing boost b/t shifts. and if you have a higher stall torque convertor, you can actually come off the line already in boost.

other than that, and not considering full built race tranny, the 5 spd is the way to go. more power to the wheels, better gearing, and the 5spd will hold more power than a stock or lightly modded a604.

You're right except for the auto handling more power than the 5 speed. Unless its a race tranny the autos never hold more in ANY car.

Back in the days, MWC (Pure Rage) ran 20 plus psi, with a fully built engine, nitrous (I think), and a stock AT tranny. Also, Shogun98rs ran 18 psi with a stock AT tranny also.

Ray had some level10 stuff.

He also ran 28psi last time he blew his engine up :)

Man that brings back memories...I remember MWC's car...it's been so long. That was back on the odl board I think, when I had my old car. I think he ended up with a crotch rocket..
