29286, HELP.....fuel leak!!!!!!!!!(long) Posted by RoboTechDSM, Aug-18-02 05:40 AM
Guys, there's a fuel leak where the HRC fuel pressure gauge 'T's off into the rail line. I don't have any leak on the line going to the fuel rail. It's where the fuel pressure gauge is connected to the Vortech SFMU. The fittings and all are new. I took off the hose where the FPG is connected, took a bit of motor oil, and feel around the barb fitting and shaft, there's no scrapes or rough feel. I then inspected the hose for any cracks or cuts, there where none that's I thought was deep enough for fuel to seep out. I cut the small portion tip ,where it connects to the port before, and push the new hose tip back onto the barbed fitting port. I even use 2 hose clamps to see if that'll do it.....NOPE (one in the shaft and one where the barb is bulging out a bit in the hose)!!!
My guess is that the barb fitting is letting a bit of fuel seep outta there. Oh yeah, there's only 1 barb in the fitting, as opposed to the one that came with the Cartech, where there's like 2-3 barbs. My guess is that's it, but it still doesn't explain how it would seep out with 2 hose clamps extremely tight in there.
Another reason why I'm opting towards the barb fitting is that if there's no hose clamps holding the line, I can easily pull the hose out. With the Cartech fittings, it's almost impossible to pull the hose out by hand, due to the multiple barb fittings.
Maybe if I get a smaller hose??? I used the exact same hose connected to the FPG that came with the HRC kit. Any other suggestions guys??? Thanks......
Oh yeah, all the fitting connections is nice and extremely tight. We put an anti-seize teflon paste before screwing all the fittings. I pretty much ruled that out.

so its leaking on the hose which connects to a barb fitting right? if so get a smaller fuel line and just push it in there 'might take a while' use oil or so to lube it up...

To sum it up....yeah. What size hose are you using for the SFMU to connect to the FPG?? Oh yeah, how many barbs does your fitting have?? Mine only has one. Thanks Michael.

i forgot the size on mine... well i got one fitting for one end going to the s-fmu, fuel rail, mechanical fp gauge, and one end for a electrical fp gauge ...just buy one size smaller then the fuel line your using now, that should work.. they are pretty cheap hoses...

I still don't know why fuel would seep out with 2 hose clamps in there though.

what i can think of 1 hose is to big 2 hose is cut 3 both 4 hose clamp is not tight enough 5 hose clamp is to tight and cut it up 6 im tired...

GODDDAMMM MIKES TIGHT ASS VIRGIN FUEL LINES
I spent like 2 hours getting those freaking hoses on his SFMU nipples, even with oil.
Ok, now this just sounds bad ... But yah. Tight fuel lines baby.

Are you SURE its not leaking from the SFMU?? I say this because my did when I got it back from it being rebuilt by Vortech. There is a little hole on the underside of the SFMU, right by the smaller round cylinder looking thing there. You will see a light blue rubber seal between it and the body of the SFMU..the hole will be right there to the side of that cylinder. The pressure piston is inside that smaller round cylinder. What was happening with mine was that those 4 innner screws inside the unit that hold on that cylinder were loose, causing fuel to be ingestded into the diaphram part of the SFMU, and it leaked out that little hole, since that hole goes right into that diaphram/disk chamber. Just thought i would throw this out at ya..

I agree With Extreme.
It's probably leaking from the SFMU. Moreover, if you don't have the right type of port fitting for the SFMU, it will leak like crazy. It requires a special larger headed port fitting, for either a plug or 6 AN fitting, with a rubber O-ring or it will leak.
It's as simple as that. It can be somewhat of a pain getting those fittings jsut right for the SFMU.

Actually, it didn't came from the SFMU, thanks God. When we first installed the FPR, we use cheapo Napa fittings with only 1 barb on each shaft. Me and Fast420A got another set of fittings at Home Depot and Lowe's. We got the one's where there's 4 barbs on each shaft. Now THAT pretty much took care of it. Haven't leaked since (knock on wood), and the terrible fuel smell that emanated from the SFMU area is gone.

sounds good dude... hey dan, the fuel pressure hoses we all put that took forever, that one night we did the s-fmu are gone.. when i put the 315cc injectors in i decided to redo my s-fmu lines in that area so it really uses one fitting now... it almost looks stock }> ...hehe
