29175, Getting closer.... Posted by 992gnt, Aug-16-02 02:46 PM
Pistons are in, rods are torqued down, oil pan is on. Head is right at the service limit (10 thou. had to come off the head to repair it), intake and exhaist mani's are back on. Klipzracer is coming over in the morning to help me drop the head back on and then it's all down hill from there. I just might make it up to Indy after all :D :D :D

Cool beans :-)
Now all you have to deal w/ is that pesky break-in.
I want to know how much of a difference you feel in the same boost but lower compression.
Keep us posted

Goodluck. I think you wont have any more probs now, or a lot less... If you know its all dont right, you should be good to go for many many miles.
btw, got my tranny back in tonight, gonna finish up tomorrow when I am rested up and see if she'll crank over for me one more time ;-)

Yeah, now that "I" have put the entire motor back together, I feel a little better about things. One nice bonus - Guy told the head was lightly ported (gasket matched mostly). Well he lied. It's majorly ported. The combustion chambers are touched up, the intake runners are cleaned up, the intake side of the head has been opened up as well as behind the valves. No wonder the thing responds so well to adding fuel. :D The break-in will take place on the way to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway tomorrow. I can't wait to take that bitch around the track!
Good luck with your tranny Brad, I know how it feels to be without the car for soooo long. I've only driven mine for about 2-1/2 months out of the last 6-1/2.

29180, ALL DONE!!! Posted by 992gnt, Aug-17-02 12:07 PM
Started up on the second revolution, no smoke, idles good, no weird noises. Drives good, although I think I cracked the thermostat housing putting it back on. There's a tiny little leak after I shut it off. Other than that, it's done. Thanks to Klipz, who hung with me until it was done (even tho I know all he really wanted was to drive Talon as a support vehicle for the first drive...) Now to baby it for the next 500 miles, ugh.

be easy on her till shes broken in good, it'd be a PITA to jack it up off the bat ;-) glad to see you got your engine removed, machine shop shit done, and engine put back in, in that short of a time. Hell yeah thats awesome. And also good about what Guy had done to the head. Startin' my car tomorrow finally, was busy today.. Need to change oil and see if my boost leak thing works. Have fun in Indy.
