28895, 160 thermostat from Howell Posted by Strauss, Aug-13-02 02:54 PM
Well I called them to get the thermostat(160) for my car, and they said they only had it for the Neon. Now I know the 420A's are in the neons, but do they have the same thermostat housings? I figured a person at Howell would know to tell me it would still work on my car if it did....but maybe it's just some person sitting at the computer taking orders. Let me know guys, I held off ordering until I could get word from the professionals :)

It is the right thermostat, I have that exact same one in my car right now. Works great!

Yeah I asked Gary about that a while ago and it will fit. But watch out, I'm not sure how our ECU will deal with it. I know on other cars it can affect performance due to the computer never really seeing the car completely warmed up.

I have never had good luck with gasket maker. I would get the real deal, from either the dealership or autozone or somewhere else. I do however scrape off the old gasket very thoroughly, go over it with a light wire brush, clean it all up, and apply the gasket.. actually mine I put gasket maker on both sides of the gasket, the bolted it all back up, and it sealed great with a nice bead of gasket maker around the outside, no gaps... Before I have had leaks with just using plain gasket maker, and they caused me to crack my manifold...

So what do I say to the dealer? I need a thermostat gasket or what. I guess what I'm saying is what parts come together that I'll need gaskets for?

I have run the 160 degree thermostat in my car ever since it had a turbo (I think I was the first one to try that out too :( ). works great. I go tno error codes from it. you will need th eround thermostat housing gasket from the dealer. not the square one.
