28824, how much blow by?(stock bottom end)
Posted by fabry827, Aug-13-02 05:00 AM
So, how much do you guys w/ the stock bottom end get? I have always had just a straight piece of hose coming out of my breather without any catch can. I have never had any blow by what so ever, until last night. I opened my hood this morning and there was some oil splattered on the underside of my hood and a little on an ic pipe(which is right below the breather hose). I know it's normal to have some, but I never had any before. I guess it's time to get a catchcan :(

I used to get quit a bit of blow by before the rebuild. And when the engine blew I got A LOT of blow bye. It is a sign that your rings are letting oil passed them. Turn the boost down a littel and pray that your engine holds up. After I rebuilt my motor I get ZERO blowby. These total seal rings are the shiznit!!!

I'm kinda confused right now. I have never gotten ANY blow by at all, except for this one time. BTW, I only run 7 psi. I drove my car again today and made a little clear catch can and went out for a bit. i was boosting alot to see what would happen, and guess what, nothing. So, Now I don't get any. Maybe something held a valve open for a second and forced some oil out? I pulled out the valve coming from the exhaust side of the valve cover and checked it out. It seemed like the little piston inside may have been stuck open. if this did happen, it would have let pressurized air into the valvecover and forced some oil out as well. Oh well, nothing to do but drive it I guess.

might want to check out your PCV valve. It can leak boost pressure into the valvcover and spit oil back out the breather line..Thats prob what happened...

Yeah, I checked it and it seems to work fine after I cleaned it, but it wasn't rattling when i took it out like it should. So I think it may have bees stuck open. Everything seems to be fine, no more blow by, idles at 18 inches of Hg just like normal. I already ordered a greddy catch tank just incase. It'll spruce up my engine compartment if anything else.

I removed my PCV valve, plugged the intake mani side, and ran a hose from the valve cover side to my RRE catch can, along with the other nipple coming off the catch can. That way I have twice the crankcase ventilation and no chance of a PCV valve malfunction.

Yesturday on the way to work I blew a vaccum nipple off one of my vaccum lines creating a vaccum leak and my BOV to make nummerous blow offs per cycle. So when i got to work i opened up my hood to see where the leak was comming from (right where i expected it), so I took one of the vaccum caps I keep in my car now and plugged the hole.
Then for the first time i too noticed oil comming out of my breather. Making a long story short THAT DAMN PCV VALVE was the culpret too.
