28487, questions before I install 440's and AFC.. Posted by 96venger, Aug-08-02 06:41 AM
I was just about to install my afc but I started reading on how important it is to have an A/F gauge and EGT gauge. I have both EXCEPT EGT is not installed yet, and my o2 sensor is bad so my a/f readings probably arenn't very accurate. Should I get a new one and install EGT before I do anything else??
The reason I am asking is becasue I want to do this but I don't want to wait for a new o2 and I don't have all the fittings to install the EGT ......all I have is the probe itself (suggestions on this would help too)
Thanks Mark

Both are important. >I have both EXCEPT EGT is not installed yet, and my o2 >sensor is bad so my a/f readings probably arenn't very >accurate.
You need them both to tune it properly.

Yes. There will be no way to tell if you are running rich or lean and where your EGT's are. Once you put your 440's in, you will be way too rich and you will need to lean it out, but you can not tell how much to lean it without the proper gauges.

I would wait to install the safc until you have a new o2 and the EGT gauge installed.

What type of probe do you have? I used the tap kind. All you have to do is go buy a tap with the same thread pattern as your probe. Drill the proper size hole in the exhaust mani closest to the #4 cylinder. Slowly screw the tap in and then back it out. Screw in the probe and run the wires... bam, you are done. (make sure you have the car running when you drill the hole to try to force the shavings out) It is not hard at all. I did it on my lunch break. Just take your time with the tap.

ok .. if you got the time put your super afc on, and just set the basic info for the car to run normal! dont tune it yet.. wait till you get your egt installed and new o2 sensor put in to start tuning and installing your bigger injectors... cool
