28281, Made a nice little ram-air set-up..... Posted by Strauss, Aug-06-02 02:16 AM
Yesterday I was bored and I decided that my air filter was in need of some cold air. I just picked up some heat resistant dryer hose from Lowe's and ran some up to my air filter. I stuck one end of it directly to the right of my intercooler, and ran it up between my IC pipes to the bottom of my air filter. I ziptied the hose to my fuse box and everything fit great! Took me a total of about 10min, and cost me $5. I'll take some pics and post them so you guys can see what I'm talking about. Seems to help a bit, I can feel the car pull a bit harder. After driving around for awhile, the area near my air filter stays cold! For $5 and 10min of work, I suggest everyone does this that has a turbo set-up with their filter still in the engine bay....I'll post some pics later.

Here's some pics of my new set-up. I also swithced filters, I picked up one of those heat-shielded Ractive air filters. I cut a hole out of the "shield" and put that side facing down, so the cold air is "forced" into the filter...check it out:
This is where the hose gets it's air from:

Here it is in the engine bay:

The hole cut out of the "shield":

I used to have the same exact thing done when I was at stage I. Now I have some fat 2.5" IC piping so it is just about too tight to use it now. My front bumper is off for some repairs right now (doing everything yourself has its good and bad points), so I think I may try to figure out a way to fit that back in there again.

Haha yeah I used to have a cold air intake setup for my stage 1 but I had to get rid of it because it wouldn't clear my intercooler piping. Hmm maybe I'll do that when I install my EVO bumper. The other scoop is there for the oil cooler but the other one is vacant hehe...

i went about it a lil differently, who uses their brights that much anyways?

i also had another headlight scoop, that i fiberglassed a mandrel bend into the opening, and it ran right into the turbo intake pipe:
this one is obviously not very "street-friendly" since theres no air filter
was nice to come across 2 spare headlights to experiment w/ . got one dirst cheap, and the other was free :). btw, got this idea from the supra guys, lot of em make track-day headlights like this
