I got this thermo tec stuff from summit and it is great. I got the 1" diameter sleeve to go over my AC lines and I am going to put it over my coolant line that runs over the exhaust manifold. When I got the package it came with all the thermo tec products in a brosure. They make a turbo heat shield bag thing. They also have lots of other nice heat sheild type wraps. I thiunk I might wrap my down pipe and my manifold.

yeah the thermo tec stuff works real well! i wrapped it on my downpipe from the turbo all the way past those hoses. it brought heat down a lot better too. i should be getting a turbo heat shield monday. it should be a hell of a difference.

Hey Dave, what did you use to wrap the thermotec sleeves, if you know what I mean? (tie wraps?)

I'm sure you had to cut a slit all the way down it to go around the A/C lines. (Mine just arrived this wkd as well)

that turbo blanket shit sucks... dont waste your $$$, mine didnt last long before getting hard and falling apart... the wrap works good though. I used metal ties i got from napa or autozone. like plastic ties just metal..

damn I need some thing like that. While driving home yesterday I heard this loud rattle and scratching, turns out my downpipe melted the radiator fan and caused it to lean foward hitting the radiator and bending a lot of its fins :(

hey guys what do you advice to get to insulate what ??? the headers.

I wnat to get the turbo one, but i do not know if it will fit on my car how can i find out i have cuztom kit.

jason....I havent installed it yet. I want to take off the AC line so I dont have to cut the wrap. My friend works at tirekingdom and he can hook me up on draining the refridgerant and re filling it. I havent decided if I want to cut the sleeve yet. If I do cut it I am going to use metal ties like brad said.

How many feet do we need just to cover up the downpipe?

We are talking about a sleeve not the tape wrap stuff. If you get the tape wrap stuff for the downpipe it comes in a 25 foot roll I think. And get 1 inch not the 2 inch.

Just wrap the downpipe from where it meets the turbo to the first joint where the flange is.

Hmmm...why dont you just wrap the downpipe instead of taking off your A/C line, then recharging it? Seems to me its going to be much better to wrap the DP, then just wrapping the A/C lines from the hot DP. You will cut down on heat too by wraping the DP, rather than just insulating the A/C lines. Just a thought..

Actually I am in the process of wraping just about everything under the hood that can be wraped. I want to cut down on the heat in my engine bay. I think I am going to wrap the downpipe and use the sleeve for the coolant line above the exhaust manifold. I was thinking the same thing though about not wraping the AC line and just wraping the downpipe.

RRE did my heat shielding:

SSteel shield arount turbine
SS shield (welded into a box) around exhaust manifold
Asbestos webbing wrap (2") around manifold and downpipe
Above held on by 22ga bare steel wire, twisted at ends with pliers
Adhesive asbestos tape with aluminum foil backing around the AC lines
Standard orange RRE thermotec? wrap for the radiator line
Heavy foil with asbestos liner 5"x5" mat around turbine

my (hrc cast) manifold warped pretty good after 10k of use, and I overheated a couple times, but no cracking and I've only melted the o2 sensor wire once. ;)
