What are the prices for stock parts (bearings pistons rings and such)
vs forged? And Is it easier to pull the motor from the top of the car or drop it out of the bottom??? I have access to a shop (lift,rack, ect Impacts!!!)(heres my lil story Why, (Star kit) vac lineoff the delta gate rotted from heat and fell of in a third gear pull boosted too high pegged 25psi and blew off line to gauge after (160 40 50 160)comp test and teardown found that oilpan gasket head gasket valve cover gasket all blew so we "un" tested the rings me being the ultamate tightwad slapped a new headgasket on ther (BTW theres a recall on the gasket !FYI!!)craked it up and it ran worse or no diff(160 60 80 160)
so I have no choice now but to ether rebuild (pay only parts an machine shop)or buy a junkyard motor for 800 Id rather rebuild but I hate riding my moped 6 miles to work everyday! sorry to rant Any opinons would HELP.

I say rebuild. It sounds like you work at a shop (or have a really good friend that does). How long would the machine shop take if you have a good one? I would say buy the good shit put it in and have "worry free" extra power but thats just me. If I had the cash right now I'd be at 15psi too because my 8psi is starting to feel slow.

Don't know about stock stuff but at howell automotive you can get them for pretty reasonable....I am doing thier re ring kit this month after a similar experience, but my motor is just old and tired.
For the re ring kit its like $183. If there is nothing wrong with my pistons I will continue to use the stock ones, but if I have cracked one I will be replacing with forged ones.

RxR_Eclipse - You might as well go ahead and replace the the pistons too, they're really weak IMO. The stock rods are reportedly good for up to ~13psi.

I would love to do that but I just can't afford it. I am trying to do this rebuild on a budget of $500.
