2797, Help me launch!

I'm having a hell of a time launching my turbo'd GS....I'm running 15psi and pretty much have no clue how to launch :-(...it's way different than N/T....if there are any good turbo launchers out there it would be sweet if you could give me some tips....I know I'll get the hang of if someday but I'm getting frustrated now....Like last night I raced a LT1 Camaro and only lost by a car length....He jumped me by like 5 car lengths and I reeled him in four car lengths....but my start was so bad...If I could of had a good luanch I would of killed him!

I have the Star Stage II kit with the T3-T04E Ball Bearing turbonetics turbocharger and Star Front Mount Intercooler.....I reach full boost (15psi) around 4,000 rpms and it spools pretty fast :-)

Good sticky tires are a must for almost any FWD.
- rev to like 3K rpm and slip the clutch witout stepping more on the gas
- once the clutch is all the way way out, start slowly stepping on the gas (don't go to WOT yet) the trick here is step on the gas without causing any wheel spin
- now shift into 2nd and depending on the power you are making you can now go WOT (don't power shift if that will cause any wheel spin)

I hope that helps, you can also go to DSM.org and search there.

I have a 99' GS Sport with a Star Stage II Ball Bearing Turbo also, but only push 5psi... I hit full boost at around 2500 to 3000rpm's, I can't believe you don't hit full boost untill 4000rpm's?! I guess thats what happens when you build up the internals, but shouldn't that help boost?

Anyway, I agree with XT_DSM, that's what I have to do, cause if I don't then I spin the tires entirely through first and second... don't go WOT untill you get A LOT of traction. It took me a long time also to get the hang of it... everybody here helped me when I asked the same question.

How long have you had yours... I've had mine for a little over a month.

The difference though is your 5 psi at 2500 and his 15 at 4000. That's pretty good

I have been fully built and turbocharged for 4 months now.....I took my car to FL and back (3,400 miles round trip) with NO problems....ran like a champ! I have 5,500 miles on my new motor now and have had no hint of any problems....I'm currently running 15psi on the street and just getting use to the mad power this car makes.....Very Fun Though...I love beating thoughs V-8 guy's :-)...It's an everynight ordeal, one after another getting beat down by the old "GS"

Thats SWEET!!! God I wish I had the bones to build up my internals:-) Did you weld the wastegate pipe into the down pipe?? I'm having this done tomorrow, cause I LOVE hearing my turbo spool up:-) AND I see you have an HKS turbo timer... is it the type 0 or type 1? Wyatt's suppose to get me the type 1 by next week. I've been waiting like a month for it cause I guess they are really hard to get right now? And... is there anything you haven't done to your car?? I am SO jealous:o I have like only 1,000 miles on my turbo so far, and I have had no problems ( knock on wood ) either...420A's RULE!!

99GSBBTurbo: No, I have not welded my dump tube to my downpipe yet! How are you going to do it??? How do you get the right angle...you have to do it while it's on the car don't you? I did however route Flex pipe from the dumptube off the wastegate to under my car, and yes this sound does get very annoying. I have the HKS Type 1 Turbo Timer....My best G-Tech on the Turbo Timer so far is a 13.6! Strauss: I live in Austin, MN...it's 100 miles south of Minneapolis....

Yes, you have to have the wastegate on the car in order to get the right angle. Check out turbogs.com, Wyatt's page, it kinda shows you how he did it.

I'm also getting a heat sheld to put around the exhaust side of the turbo, it's going to be polished so it will look pretty cool, and it will keep the heat off my hood.

Damn... you got a 13.6!! You are as fast as a Corevett!! SWEET!!
