27950, thinking of going turbo Posted by chaye, Jul-31-02 05:02 PM
ok ok so what are the downsides of turbocharging the 420A besides the deep deep hole in my wallet.. will i be better off trading my gs for a gst and how much poswer will each car make how much can a GS-T make with all the mods
and how much will the 420A make with the turbo kit(stage 2)
and what are their downsides

:wary You sure a turbo makes that sound? Cause i was sure it was the tranny fluid gushing though the clutch.
Thanks for the help.

you COULD get that at the wheels w/ a stage2 kit, in theory.

turbos are great, they make the 4 banger fly, and without the risk of crankwalk (no fights wanted just stating the obvious) and insurance rates.

If you are going to do it, do it right. Make sure u have everything u need to run a stage 2 especially fuel system I can't stress that enough. that is where so many people mess up on. I don't know which way u want star hann ner custom or what ever. It's a lot of fun, and yes it dose make that rush or air sound pssssssst or shhhhhhhhhhht it's freaking cool. I'd say go for it there are upsides and downsides to everything.

trade it in for a GST it's much cheaper in the long run and you don't have to build up your motor in the 4g63 to make good hp
peeps complain that you might get crankwalk which is a valid concern but you are almost guaranteed to rebuild your 420a motor after boost
with a gst and 1000 bux in parts u can do mid-high 13s on stock turbo all day long and know that your motor is built for boost

unless you're 25, married, and/or have a perfect driving record...a GST/GSX insurance can burn you pretty good in the long run. Kory is right though about the rebuild. I had to rebuild in a month and I boosted an average of 7psi during that month before it went boom. Boom is no good. But don't let that scare you away. There are guys on here who's boosted 8psi for over a year and engine is still good. Tuning is the key.
