Well, I was having a weird overheating problem that I posted about before, and some of you were having the same problem. Well ,I changed my thermostat and topped off my antifreeze, and that didn't help. So the other day, I flushed my radiator, and it was fine....at least until last night. I was racing a friend of mine (98 GS-R, heavily modded, but still NA :( ), and after killing him three times in a row up to about ~120mph each time, I looked at the old temp gauge and she was up to about 3/4 and rising. So I pulled over and so did my friend. We let it cool for a bit and my friend thought possibly I may have had air pockets in my radiator. So we cracked the cap, and the damn thing steamed out air for about 3min. straight! We left my car in the parking lot and got some water at the gas station, and turns out after letting out all that air, my car was 3 20oz. bottles of water short of antifreeze! I never let my car run after I flushed my radiator, so when I filled it up, it needed to be "burped". For all you guys having this overheating problem......run your car until it's hot. Then let it cool for about 5-10min., then slowly crack open your radiator cap. Let all the steam come out, then start your car with the cap off. Let it run, it should bubble over a few times as the air comes out, once it stops bubbling, shut it off. Then fill her up with some antifreeze again, run it with the cap off, and make sure all the air pockets are out, then you *should* be good to go(put the cap back on). Maybe some of you guys did this already, but my dumbass didn't know you were supposed to do that, and I think it fixed my problem. Hope this helps some of you guys.....

damn, I knew I should have posted the solution. Yeah I had same problem as you and did what you did a while back and nore more overheating. I just forgot to post the solution for everyone else. But good looking out.

She overheated again tonight :( Now it's only overheating on me when I'm on it past 100mph. I can beat it all I want up to ~100mph, but once I start gettin up there in speed, so does my temp needle. Oh well, back to the drawing boards.....

u might look into a fluidyne radiator and if u got the money some new fans... if you have done the rest i would look into a better radiator etc... think about it...

Maybe it's just my eyes goin bad.. but it looks like you got a bigass FMIC hangin out infront of your rad.. You might want to consider "raising" your FMIC, or moving it out away from the rad a bit to encourage airflow through the rad. Also washing out the fins.. lotsa bugs packup in the rads.. they don't transfer heat too well ;-)

Also.. as far a theromstats go. the filler neck is the highest point in the system.. make sure you get a thermostat with a "jiggle valve" (I swear, that's what they call it!) in it. This will let the air escape when your filling up your system.. also when your filling, rev the engine to promote pushing air pockets out of your cooling system.

Overheating is a good sign you may have a headgasket on the way out, too. Hope not..

If it was a headgasket wouldn't he be burning/loosing oil/coolant?

Not always. Mine had a oil leak that went on for about 4 months untilll the headgasket finally blew so bad that the car wouldnt run right at all. Make sure your headgasket is ok. Do a compression test on it and see.

What should my compression be with the 8.6:1 pistons? I guess I might as well do that, just to rule out that possibility....or to find out that I'm screwed :(

The 1st time it got hot I was freaking out!! I was thinking blown headgasket and/or warped head. I would think that it is not the headgasket. It seems to me that it is juts a cooling problem maybe from the intercooler blocking so much of the surface are of the radiator..or that fans can't push enough air with the increased under hood temps. I had exact same prob in my car..it was the fan..but I have a clutch fan....just got my new electric fan today.:)

I would get warm after high boost runs, flushed out the cooling system clean, popped in a modified 4g63 fluidyne from RRE in there, new radiator hoses, clamps, lower degree thermostat, filled with pure water, 1/2 gallon of good antifreeze, and a bottle of redline water wetter, and havent had a problem since.
