Thats right..tonight they started my car for the first time in 4 months....and it started and ideled for 20 min w/ 550cc injectors..and the safc wasnt even hooked up yet!!!!! so yes it can be done..they are hooking that up tommorow..and then off to the dyno i go!!!

...you are running rich enough to tear up your catalytic converter, but then again you're installing your AFC tomorrow. (I knew the 550cc's would work:)!!)

:-) Good to hear that! 550's was looking to be my choice too... If my car can idle at 50/60/70psi, then it can take 550s..

As for catalytic convertors...why you still have one???? ;-)
I am considering on "replacing" mine with a better more "hollow" one :-)

Since I am ODB-II, will I throw a CEL if I ran with a "better more 'hollow'" cat?

I thought about that before, but was worried about throwing a CEL and then the ECU leaning out the fuel or something... If anyone knows what will actually happen, instead of like me speculating, could you be so kind as to ed-juh-ma-kate me...;-)

If anything, it would richen things up, the back o2 sensor would see more O2, which the ECU would think was un-burnt fuel, thus would deliver more fuel in closed loop operation. It wouldn't change anything @ WOT but your in-town gas mileage would probably suffer.
I ran with my cat off for a couple days just for fun (the sound of a turbo spooling down because of no backpressure is awesome!)and my ECU didn't through a code.
I don't think the downstreaem o2 sensor has a lot to do with closed loop air/fuel adjustments, I think it more for fault codes and to make sure the CAT is actually doing its job.

So i went to pick up my car today..finally..and guess what..they wre the WRONG injectors..they had low impendence 550s instead of high..so they put in the stock ones for now, and they are ordering the high impedence(spelling)? ones that should be in next week. apparntly thursday they will throw in the new injectors, hook up the safc..and take her to the dyno. As for now, i get my car back tommorow (it went down november 5th) thank goodness..even though i will be breaking it in..it will still be nice to have her back

I knocked my cat out and the CEL came on after a day. But then after a month it went off and hasn't come on since. The Error code was 72 which no one knows what that is. And about the gas mileage. . .I went from getting about 220 miles per tank to 300!!! My Gas mileage went up when I knocked out the cat. I couldn't believe it. The downside to the hollow cat is, the exhaust smells like an old dirty V-8 going by. I could tell a difference in how she pulls through the whole rpm band after knocking it out. In my opinion it was worth it but that is because we don't have Smog in my County anymore so I don't have to worry about that.

The back 02 sensor doesn't work in closed loop operation. Its sole and only purpose in OBDII cars is to determine wether your cat is functioning properly and throw a code if it isn't. Its strictly a monitoring device. At least thats its only purpose in every other make OBDII car which poses the question: why the hell do 95s have two O2 sensors? (maybe that will explain something).

Stan, download and look through the first coupla pages in the tech info manual linked to in my sig. it says that ALL the eclipses are built to OBD2 spec... Now, whether or not that is correct i don't know, but this is the companion to the mitsu service manual, and i believe that is what it says... Possibly ODB2 spec, but not fully ODB2 compliant, hence the changes in 96+

The rear one is STRICTLY to tell you your Cat is bad, for emissions. It has no effect of burn either Lean or Rich, only the upstream O2 affects this
