27162, Modular clutch Posted by MR BLUNT 2gnt, Jul-23-02 12:27 PM
well guys im new to the turbo scene..i have a 98 gs w/ a dual friction cf clutch...its slipping...i only have about 30k on it at the most....in fifth gear at low rpms cruising when i gun it the rpms climb to 4500 and it accelerates as it slips....it doesn't slip unless im at a low rpm in 4th or 5th and gun it....so i will probably just change it b/c i have the money right now...i really don't want to spend 700+ on a clutch masters b/c thats just rediculous to spend that damn much..f'n modular clutches...i don't know if i trust the cf again b/c i'm not putting any power to it right now and its slipping...what will happen at 14 psi....so i need some advice on the new one to go w/...what is the best for 14 psi daily driven and 18-19 at the track? where is the best place to order it from...cheapest preferrably.....my setup is forged internals, fuel system and a stage 2 star kit...thanks for the advice....lets set this post blazin...i need the help...thanks guys....

i'm pretty sure everyone will say go with the cm stage 4. why buy another clutch for 500 and have it slip and buy yet another one to replace it. spend the extra 200 bucks now. I don't beleive that enyone has reported the cm 4 slipping yet.
NER has it for about 700 shipped but i can't garauntee he will order one for you. We've had a few problems with getting it. we're going on the third on now

if you buy another cfdf, your're throwing more money to the wind... I burnt one up in under 6000 miles, havent had a prob with the clutch masters, it held even when the tranny blew up.

thanks...glad someone would finally help a brother out...come one i know more of you guys have experience w/ these things...i know wyatt sells a stage 3 or 4 anyone have one of these? sounds like the clutchmasters stage 4 is winning the battle....

i too destroyed a CFDF in under 6000 miles. Same symptoms.
The CM stage 4 is all the clutch you'll ever need. It's a "buy it and forget it" deal. it'll *never* break under normal wear and tear, it takes oh so much more to bring this bad boy down. We're talking 500HP, limited slip burnouts in the watebox, slipping it. That might faze it.. until you wear it back in.

I actually went with an unorthodox clutch I'm not sure they make it anymore. I'm putting 300+ horspwer to the ground and I've encountered zero problems. The style was called strapped or something and I got the lightened flywheel. Late mike oh yah the clutch was somewhere around like 425

There is only one way to go... I am telling you, I could feel a huge difference between the two clutches. The cm stg 4 what so fuckin stong you can feel your engine and tranny twisting under the hood, I swear, that ceramic material is hella strong. You don't wanna be changin' clutches all the time, do you?

there we go...i knew you guys had it in you...i have read forum after forum after forum...there isn't a ton of info in it so i just wanted some input...i probably will end up going w/ the stage 4 b/c there isn't really anything else is comparable....does anyone still sell that Unorhodox Racing one for 450ish...thats a really good price and i won't be over 300hp to the wheels..i have felt 14 psi and really that is fast enough for me...i don't really need to go to 20 unless i'm at the track but then i will worry about the blessed tranny popping.... i need to see if the wholesaler that i use can do clutchmasters, save me maybe 150ish....thats just so much money for a clutch but you get what you pay for...that extra 200-300 dollars could go towards the bigger injectors....

I am also a member of the cfdf burn out switch to the CM Stage IV never have a problem clutch club. It is really the only clutch I can recommend at this point and I have used several.

Clutch Masters stage 4 here, with G-force drag radials on the front. If anyone besides the guys making 350hp+ are going to destroy a clutch, it would be me. Those tires are medival, I get hardly any wheelspin into second gear, the tranny just bangs and grabs......the clutch hasn't shown the slightest bit of where. Like Dino said, "buy it and forget it"....CM 4 is the way to go, plain and simple.

well as good as the cm sounds and i know its proven itself i am getting the RacePrep Stage 3...my dude Wyatt is giving me a really good deal and it is good to 350 ish hp, which i probably wont be at, i most likely will be running 15 daily...should be more than enough clutch for me...i seen a forum that had the clamping pressure of the different clutches somewhere, can't remember if it was here or on dsmtalk....anyone know where the thread can be found???

15psi set up correctly is a nice little kick in the pants. Good luck w/ the clutch. I wish my transmogrification would get finished up soon, tranny troubles are a pain in the ass.

damn you guyz are scaring me I want a reliable clutch and I was aimin for a CFDF but the most expensive one is the most reliable?! I think imma get a stock clutch, it's almost 100k miles and it's still gripping. I don't even know what kinda clutch I got also so I gotta take that bitch thing apart first then order the clutch :(.

Umm well that wasn't me since I didn't have my girl with me... unless XtremeRS counts hahahahah j/k bro. I was there with Matt (XtremeRS) and my brother. We did run into another 2gnt guy as soon as we pulled up and if I remember right it was jcurcillo.... I could be wrong but I didn't really get a chance to talk to him at all.
