hey guys sup i got a question on braking. Now since we have drumbs on the back braking on our cars really suck, now after turbo i need to brake a lot what should i do to upgrade , what has averyoene else done to upgrade, bigger brakes or have you changed the back brakes to disk brakes

i want to do the rear conversion when i have some spare $ lying around, but for now i've got brembo's w/ metal master pads in the front, stops on a dime. they're not drilled or slotted either, just normal brembo rotors.

The best to do is find a gs or a gst in the junkyard. Take out the entier suspension from the rear and its almost a direct bolt on. 2gnt has all teh instructions right on its main page under mods. Its should help you out and its alot cheaper then buying a brake kit. Peace

I also have the front brembro rotors, and I dont think that disks in the rear would make that much of a difference. If I found a GST GSX GS with a set for reasoable I would buy it but it costs quite a bit to do the conversion.

I swtched over to rear GS/GS-T/GSX (they're all the same) disk brakes from rear drums.

The performance gain was awesome. Better braking all around, equalized more weight to the rear of the car. The stopping power has improved probably at least 2-3 times better, in my own opinion. It also looks a helluva lot better!

The only downside is a PITA install, and brake dust. ;-)

I bought the whole GSX rear setup for about $100 from a local junkyard. Took about 4-5 hours to do it, since I took my time. Don't forget to bleed the brakes.

There's a how-to on the main page. You have an option as far as switching to the disk emergency brake lines, or do some modding to the rear entry hole of the drum-in-disk dust shield to make it work. Your choice. I chose the latter, and it works fine.

All you need is the rear calipers/brackets, rotors, and drum-in-disk/ dust shield. Some people would recommend having the emergency brake lines too. Again, some people use them, and others don't.

I'll tell you now unless you do a lotta crazy fast driving and course racing you probably don't need a new set of brakes, probably just some pads and rotors will do the job. But my setup now is:

3000GTSL front dual piston calipers
Mitsu pads (ick gotta get rid of these)
TSi rear calipers
Slotted and drilled rotors
RRE SS brake lines
and Motul 600 brake fluid.

oh yes good brake fluid or a brake fluid flush will help as well cuz when you begin to fade your brake you also boil your brake fluid which causes air in your lines and makes you braking weaker. Get something with a good high boiling point like Valvoline is the highest that can be gotten off the shelf easily. I've heard of ford heavy duty bf also.
