26887, To all who switched from the HRC FPR to the SFMU!!!! Posted by RoboTechDSM, Jul-19-02 03:07 PM
I got the billet HRC FPR. I already have the SFMU sitting in my room. Do I need to get anything else (extra fittings, hoses, etc...) or do I just swap that in??? Also, I know that we use the darker colored spring, but what disk will I use for 6-7 psi intercooled?? I know we use the 2.72 disk for stage 1. Thanks!!!!!!

Well i just recently did this to my car. I was boosting about 6.5 psi, and i used the dark spring and 2.72" disk/ring setup. It worked very well at that boost. When i would hit 7 or 7.5 psi, it would run a little to lean, not enough fuel pressure. So now at my 8 psi, i am using the 3.62" disk, and dark spring, along with the optional bleed valve. You will need the bleed valve to bleed off some of the boost becuase the 3.62" disk will rise the fuel pressure to quickly. But if you will only run 6 psi then the 2.72" disk will be perfect, any higher than that, i'd go with the larger disk and the bleed valve. I just got my new disk and bleed valve just in today actually. I had orderd the bleed vavle from vortech, costs 28 bucks. Here's the kicker. Its the SAME bleed valve thats on the HRC FPR! It will just screw in the bleed port on the SFMU. Now you can use the HRC bleed vavle and check valve if you like, but i didnt use a check valve, as Vortech says its not needed, but when you open the bleed vavle, it will leak vacum at idle, and change your idle fuel pressure, so the more you open the bleed valve, the higher the fuel pressure goes,so you just turn down the static adj screw to get it back to normal. Since you said you had the Billet FPR, i'm not too sure if that one has the bleed valve on it, but it might. And the larger disk from Vortech costs 3 bucks. Hope this helps, as i just did this today, so its all fresh in the head :) Car pulls damn nice too BTW. Oh yeah, you will need AN 6 FEMALE hose fittings to connect the fuel lines to the SFMU. I needed to get a "T" hose barb fitting to split the line so i could hook up the fuel pressure gaguge, as you wont be able to use the HRC T fitting. Get some small hose clamps to tighten all the fuel lines down also.

Yeah, JasonEsiT told me this like 2 months ago about the bleed valve. It's the same size as the billet one. I got the billet one, thank God right there, just saved me a few bucks. Thanks for the reply bro.

for 6psi stage 1 or stage 2 use the dark colored spring (short) and the 3.62"disk or 2.72disk.. also you will need a way to hook up the side port (6an) to your hrc fp gauge and or the fuel rail (4an).. the bottom port is for your return line just buy a 6an to hose barb fitting depending on the hose for your return line.. hope this helps..

I think Matt just solved my problem. witht he stock injectors and 3.62 disk, my car runs a bit rich at 5psi. I thnk that is what causes the bog I feel. I'll try the 2.72 disk to see. Anyone try this set up with the stock injectors? and at what idle psi? bleed valve?

if your max boost is 6psi use the 2.72"disk etc set idle to 47-55psi that should be put right around 85psi at 6psi of boost... from what corbin told me, it might work for 9psi too but just alot of adjusting..

Thanx Mike. This is with the stock 235cc injectors right?

yes the info i gave you is with the 235cc (stock injectors).. when u going to turn up the boost dude? u will get a kick out of 9psi..hehe

I can tell you from personal experience, that using the 2.72" disk, you cant go over 6 psi of boost with proper fuel pressures. I was running 7 to 7.5 of boost with that disk, but i had to up the static pressure to almost 60 psi at 0 Hg's to make the rise rate rich enough for 7 to 7.5 psi. This will make you run rich through out each pound of boost. Now i have the 3.62" disk, and the bleed valve, static is about right on at 55 psi, full vacum is at 45 psi. At 8 psi of boost, i'm getting about 105 psi of fuel pressure, and the car seems to pull really well for these pressures, no bogging ect.. I have the bleed valve opened just a little bit to help bleed off boost pressure form the sfmu to bring down the rise rate for 8 psi of boost, as the 3.62" disk will be too rich without the bleed valve opened.

how come the full vaccum static value is lower than the 55psi static?
kinda confused on how you set that up? What is the proper procedue to setting up your FMU? adjust before applying vaccum hose or after?
