26588, Hi-flow cat and EGT
Posted by hifi_esi, Jul-15-02 03:02 PM
Did anyone have notice a difference on ther EGT gauge when installing a 2.5" hi-flow cat.

I already have a 2.5" cat-back and a 3" down-pipe, but stock cat.

My EGT is at 1250 while I'm crusing and I have to back off on a long pull because my EGT go to 1600. A/F is OK

If a hi-flow cat could help, I would go that way.

it creeps to 1600 on a boosted run or just driving normally out of boost? if boosted, that isnt too un-normal.

I didn't notice any EGT difference with my 2.5" Hi-flow cat. I get about 1600 on long pulls also.

From standing still, first gear, it goes to 1250, second gear 1400, and I have to let go before the end of third gear!

I just read your "mods" and for shits and giggles, how many lbs are you running on that set-up?

5 PSI of boost for now.

you have Corbin's 8 injector set-up and you see 1600 on an EGT gauge, something is up. I'm about to get 30 lb injectors and in the last post, he's talking like I'm going to be stinking rich at 7 lbs. I'm in the middle of hooking up a 1g SMIC too. I don't plan on seeing 1450 at max boost.(7lbs)

It could be that you are so extremely rich that you are getting afterburn which is causing your high EGT's....

High flow cat will not bring down your EGT's those are measured at the manifold not after the cat.

I know that EGT is the temp at the manifold but, I was wonderring if it's easier for the exhaust to get out of the engine (hi-flow cat), would I see a drop in EGT.
