25936, New Head Gasket & full advance from Syna... Posted by pn0ymahal, Jul-07-02 04:15 PM
well i emailed Syna (missing link people) and they told me this... Keep an eye out for an anti-detonation head gasket that we're developing for your car that will allow you to run max timing advance with all the boost.
Second email There will obviously be a boost ceiling, 10-12 psi probably, on pump gas that is, way higher on race gas, more testing needs to be done. But, bear in mind the amount of power that can be gained by running that much more timing advance, how much more efficient the burn will be and how much smoother and more torque you will be producing.
Yes retarding too much will producing sky high EGT's. Just keep in mind that your engine wasn't designed to run with as little timing advance, as is run when retarded as boost pressure rises. All the engine and head care about for peak combustion efficiency are, how cold is the air coming in, when is that spark coming, how fast is this gas burning, how much pressure is in the cylinder, etc.
this all was by Peter... is this possible?

What I get from that is they're making a thicker head gasket. Thicker HG = lower compression = less detonation AND less power. Thats possible, for sure.
It's probably the same as running 10.5 vs. 8.8 pistons. You'd get more margin for error (while getting your timing optimized) with a lower compression HG.
