25654, a/t turbo sizing Posted by jsd98dsm, Jul-02-02 04:16 AM
I finally saved up enough for a kit. now comes the hard part in choosing a turbo. I have a 98 esi A/T. I really want to go NER stage 1 but I feel that the T3/T4 might be a little big because of my a/t.when I can I expect it to start to spool and when will it be at full boost? would the T3 kit be a little bit of a quicker spool? thanks

auto's can launch under boost, but only with an upgraded torque converter. When i had my car, it would only hold to just over 2000 RPMs. Still in vacuum.

doesn't the car already come with a tranny cooler? if not, then what the hell is the extra radiator thing sitting in front of the radiator?

hmmm good question........I've been researching turboing my car since I've been here, and some people have recommended upgrading the tranny cooler to keep the autos nice and cool while the engine is boosting....hmmm

my girlfriend has a 95 integra se auto. she can peel on me off the line but I'll catch up around 60 because of my top end. will this turbo help me to smoke her at low speeds?

That coiled tubing in front of your radiator is your power steering fluid cooler. The automatic tranny cooler is integrated into the bottom of the stock radiator. If you look under your hood, right next to where your cold air intake would extend down, there will be two lines running from the transmission to the cooler.
Right down in this area:

As far as turbo sizing, I was considering the same thing. I think a T3 would be better for an auto, myself.

I think howell has a good tranny cooler.I'm auto and I see 18 Psi @ 4500-4800 depends on the temperature. What sucks is you reach the redline real quick. If there was only a way to remove the limiter w/ out swapping ecu's or trannies.I probably will do the latter soon,or get a TC.I would recommend to go w/ the t3/t4 if you plan on making big power later on.If you got some dough, get the ball bearing option. BTW,how'd you guys powerbrake?I can't keep the dang car down pass 1500.Keeps lunging FWD.

He wasnt talking about the power steering tubing, cause that doesnt look like a radiator, he's probably talking about the a/c condenser junk up front. If your in a cool climate rip it out, haha.

I tried lauching in low gear and in drive with od off. I had the same problem with my car inching foward so i changed my brake pads from stock to the semimetallic.(i have brembo rotors) I can now get my car up to about 2800. they say to lauch at 3000 but I think my car launches good at 2800 . I think that for fwd anymore that 2800 would be to much tire spin.
