Here's what happened:

I was driving home from work today and at one point when I was at idle for a minute or two I noticed my a/f gauge read 1. for a few seconds then it went back to normal and at that point my check engine light came on.

Code P0134
"The PCM has determined that there is insufficient activity from oxygen sensor 1 in bank 1 for current operating conditions."

Any idea what's going on?

A code P0134 is "upstream HO2 sensor stays at center."

It's possible that you might have a loose wire at the connector or an open circuit. And it could be that the upstream sensor is also going bad. You could check for this by testing that oxygen sensor:

Disconnect the heated O2 sensor connector. Check that there's continuity between terminal 3 and 4 on the connector.

If there's no continuity, the O2 sensor is bad.

Continuity explained in laymans terms:
Imagine your garden hose if water flows through the whole hose, they you have continuity, if you cut that hose in the middle and seperate the two halves you have lost continuity, because the water cannot travel through the whole hose.

continuity is basically a complete circuit.

To check if you have a multimeter then set it to ohms and do the procedure he said above, if you see the dial reading anything you have continuity.

Alright, I checked the continuity. It was at like 7 ohm and the chilton's says it should be at 12. So does that mean I need a new O2 sensor?

Yes if its out of range it needs a changing
