25301, rebuild questions
Posted by Kirby, Jun-25-02 05:46 AM
Ok guy's if I do decide to do a rebuild I need to know what to do. Here is a list of what I'm thinking.
Bottom and top end rebuilds, replace clutch, .20 (or .020) overbore not sure wich is right, 3 or 4 angle valve job, balance and blueprint (what is blueprint anyway?) head studs, oil pump, water pump, timing belt. what else am I forgetting as far as the basics go ,is there anymore machining i should have done while I'm at it? Pretend as if you are not on a budget here what else would you have done while it's in the shop?

Get your crank polished and balance with your pistons, rods, clutch, and crank pully. You may need to have the block decked too. Just to make it flat.

balancing is overrated. Unless you're planning to push like 400-500hp I wouldn't worry about it. I brought my engine in to a guy who's been building race engines for 25 years tell me that I'll just be wasting my money, because these engines come very well balanced from the factory.

I'd only balance and blueprint if it were a large engine and no bal shafts (like me) and were revving extremely high, otherwise a simple rebuild without B&B is good. Get a three angle, and if you're going turbo get the 5 angle. you can still run regular gasoline with up to a 5 angle.
