24916, what could be the cause of misfire
Posted by ecl98pse, Jun-19-02 02:16 PM
today i was out driving and i got a CEL when i first started the car. i payed no attention to it until i got home and checked it. PO300 Randon cylinder misfire. i was boosting kinda high 8-10, but the light was on before i boosted so i don't know. but anyhow what could be the cause of random cylinder misfire?

could be your spark plugs, wires or coil.. i would check the plugs and wires 1st... also since you got it out i would do a compression check...

It happened to me. It was one of the lifters. Just something else you might check.

well the plugs are new (not even 100 miles on them. as far as the coil and wires i'm not sure is there anyway to check them besides getting new?

i used to get it a bunch of times, it usually happens if the car runs lean for a sec or so.

Find a buddy with a 420a eclipse and put his coil pack on. One of the lifters came off track and stayed open. Do a compression check. If it checks out then its probably ignition.

you can check the resistance within the coil, the specs to check should be in mods, or info@specs... get a multimeter and check the resistance etc...same goes for spark plug wires check the resistance...
