24902, Exhaust Leak (have questions) Posted by Lee, Jun-19-02 12:13 PM
I have a small exhaust leak, I have a gasket on the way that should take care of it. But I have a few questions.
When I start her up, it doesn't start the first time. Takes 2 tries to get her going. I'm hoping this is because of the exhaust leak. Am I right?
I don't think this is related, but I'm not getting any readings out of my EGT gauge. When I was screwing in the thing that holds the probe, it broke off. So as a temporary fix until I could get another one, we installed the end that was suppose to screw onto the probe. Everything looks good except it's not all the way down into the manifold. Should that matter? Does the probe have to be all the way in to get a reading?
Do I need to be concerned about driving with an exhaust leak? Gasket should be here by the end of the week, so it'll get fixed this weekend, but is there anything I should look for until then?
Sorry for the rambling, but any help will be appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Yeah you are right the starting up wierd thing is becuase of the exhaust leak. Mine did the same thing. I blew my exhaust manifold gasket and replaced it with the tti copper one. I don't know about the egt becuase my autometer one died on me after like 5 months. I did get it replaced free under warranty through a local dsm shop. They gave me one off the shelf and took my broken one so try doing that.

Did you buy it from that shop? I bought mine from a shop online. I e-mailed Autometer, but they haven't responded yet.
