24868, I am now turbo charged. Posted by jcurcillo, Jun-19-02 04:12 AM
Just want to thank you guys for all the info I get from this forum. With out that info I would still be N/A.
I, with the help of a few friends (Kon, Chad Blount, and JP), am now turbo charged. It is a custom setup. And one of the cleanest ones I have seen yet if I must say. Here is a list.
Standard T3 turbo custom manifold and 2.5" downpipe Audi wastegate custom Starion FMIC with custom 2.5" pipes 2G BOV Turbo XS manual boost controler Walbro 255 fuel pump Vortech S-FMU with large 6:1 disk Venom Fuel rail HRC fuel mapper (little black box)
I am running 6psi because I don't think my fuel system will handle more than 85psi. The walbro seams to max out on my stock injectors. I have 315cc injectors on the way. Those should help me see 7 or 8psi. Tell if the following numbers sound good.
@ WOT and 6psi in 4th I get about 1500 egt with 80psi of fuel on stock injectors. In 5th gear on WOT the fuel presure goes up to 85 psi and I get some hesitaion. Think my fuel pump is maxing out?
Car runs nice though. I will get some pictures up tonight so you guys can see the beast.
Later

why a 2g BOV, those are platic and they leak more often than the 1g, just a heads up, other than that your system sounds great. What WHP do you estimate on that system?

why not the 2g BOV...he is only making 6psi... they start leaking at 12psi. :P

Yeah, I used a 2G because it is good to 12psi. I will upgrade to a better BOV in the future, but the 2G is good for now.
Will have the pics up tonight.

Oh and one more question. I was crusing at 70mph on the high way for about 20 min. My egt began to rise. It rose to about 1410 and stopped. Is this normal?

That's perfectly normal bro.

So did you guys do this all in one day? If so then that's awesome. I wish I had some friends that knew ANYTHING about cars. Can't wait to see pics!!!

Sorry guys, have not taken pics yet. I do need some help though. I was driving home from a friends and pushing the car kind of hard. I saw the check engine light flash 3 time then go off. My buddy noticed that we had smoke coming out of the exhaust. It looks white. There is also white smoke coming out of the valve cover breather. I start the car up and it runs realy rough plus the check engine light flashes. Then I walked to the front of the car and hear this hight pitch winny nose. Any help?

Why is the check engine light flashing and not just one?

Well guys. I did a compression test.. and boom. Cylinder #1 is at 30psi. What the hell? I am only running 6psi. All my guages look good. Car was running strong. I don't get it.

The last time I had a misfire which caused the CEL to flash like that was for one reason....Massive failure of the HRC Fuel Mapper. Basically, it clamped voltage at WOT at about 3.xx

I have a Fuel mapper too. Should I get rid of it?

Well I need to get pistons and rods quick. Any help there? I will go with JE or Wiseco, whichever I can get the quickest and cheapest.

Do you think it could just be a head gasket? That'd be a cheaper fix. Unless you want to do the full rebuild.

It is the piston or ring. There is oil on the top of the piston. I will take the head off tomorrow and see.

Will the HRC fuel mapper, If it fails, make the car run lean and cause detonation? Also both jay and i noticed that when hitting boost it ran way lean for a sec or two then shot over to rich after boost was on for more than a second. This may just be the reason 2 cars have blown. So does this mapper keep the fuel from cuting under boost or does it change the wy the ECU "sees" the MAP sensor. I am thinking the second due to the way it is hooked up. I am betting on this bieng the primary failure leading to a lean condition to cause detonation and cracked piston rings. I could be very wrong. I hope im right...cause I was driving the car when it blew :)

Think I am going to put standard bore, lower comp pistons in. What is the standard bore on the cylinder wall? I need to get a honing tool.

Order your pistons and all from Howell, they should be in stock. It only took like 2 days for me to get mine....

Thanks again for another post that scared the crap out of me while my turbo is on the way...

I still think you blew your head gasket. White smoke means coolant is getting into your combustion chambers. Pretty hard for that to happen with a craked piston or ring land. But its always good to do a rebuild if you got the cash..Doing a head gasket isnt that bad, just time consuming, and with 100 bucks or less in parts, MUCH cheaper than doing a rebuild...Just MO any way..

How strong are the Wiseco pistons? Dosen't TomyBoy use Wiseco? I just ordered Eagle rods, Hastings rings, and Wiseco pistons from CNNP Racing for $880 shipped over night. Guess its ok for one day of bargin shopping.
