how much of a difference does mandrel bent make? because i wanted to get a custom 3'' cat-back made but they dont have a mandrel bender and its my friends shop so i can get a real good deal. thnx for any info

Dunno if this will answer your question, but think of this. What flows water more freely, a smooth curved hose or a kinked one??

well personally Ive heard that a 3" crush bent pipe will flow less than a 2.5" mandrel bent pipe. Dont know if thats true or not, but thats what Ive been told.

Any competent shop can buy and take mandrel bends and weld them together with straight piping to make a good mandrel bent exhaust. If a shop couldnt do that, i'd question the quality of the shop.

well i know which one would flow better but my question was, really how much difference does it make?

im sure they can buy some mandrel bent pipes and weld on some straight pipes. i was thinkin of that. seems like a good idea. thnx for the help

I asked that same question when i was at my local muffler shop. The guy who owns the place said that you get 10% decrease in flow with press bent. Not sure how much of that is true...

depends on how much of a bend it is. a 90* crush bend will flow much less than a 90* mandrel bend, while the difference in a 150* bend would be much closer.
