24801, Are aftermarket plug wires worth it???? Posted by RoboTechDSM, Jun-18-02 01:54 AM
Well, time to change my plug wires. On a turbo'd 420A, are the they worth it(magecores, Accel, etc...)? Or can I just get away with cheaper stock replacements? I've heard that upgraded plug wires aren't really necessary UNLESS you have some type of ignition upgrade (MSD, Crane, etc.....). Mine hasn't been changed since the car had 16K miles, not sure if it was changed when I got the car, now it has 57K. Thanks!!!

With your current setup, it will not make a difference. When you begin to run more boost and have some form of spark ignition help, it will help. We have a pretty good ignition system from the factory.

Thanks Murix, that's what I thought. At least with a Stage 1 or 2, it's not necesarry.

I'm not sure how much the stock replacements cost, but 8mm Accels are like $27 shipped from summit... and they're pretty! ;)
Summit part number: ATM-7961R -- red ATM-7961B -- blue ATM-7961Y -- yellow

Oh, I've checked the accels but they've changed the part number. Instead of ATM-xxxxx, it's now ACC-xxxxx. Thanks anyway.
