hey guys please don't think i am a dummy but i just wanna know

like i was saying before on my post i got a garrete to4 with 60 trim i send the car in to do the turbo and stuff and install it what i am sacred i am gonna be boosting 5 psi but since this turbo flows so much air i am scared taht 5 psi on this turbo will be like 10 on hrc trubo i compare with theirs since they say that we should only boost 8 wit intercooler

what do you guys think should i be safe boosting 5 psi on this turbo without having to worry will be too much flow and blow my engine to the moon please feed back i do not know what to do and i am scared and if you think that is too much with this turbo please tell me what should i boost 3-4psi

i heard that this turbo flows more than a 20G 40 % more and super 16G from hrc flows like a 20G so this to4 flows more than super16G so what should i do guys please give me some feedback

thanks

don't be mean pleaseeee :) lolzheheheh

5psi on a boost gauge is 5psi on a boost gauge is 5psi on a boost gauge... k? it might be capable of creating more power and flowing more than other turbos, but 5psi is still 5psi, you'll just need to check and see what your wastegate spring is setup for, right guys?

Yup I agree, 5 psi is 5 psi. It all depends on what that waste gate is set to open at.

5 psi isn't exactly 5 psi...I know I've got backup on that one. The biggest factors that determine your fuel needs are the pressure and temperature of the intake charge. There are other factors, but not so important in this thread. Each compressor will have zones of efficiency. It will be more efficient at certain flow and pressure points than in others. If you upgrade to a compressor that is more efficient at your operating points, then the temperature of the intake charge will be lower at that pressure and flow. Lower temperature at the same pressure and flow will require more fuel (all else being equal). See the picture below for a Turbonetics compressor map.

More "air" and more fuel will make more power, so that might place a limit on what you choose as a max boost. As to what psi is safe for that turbo, I don't know.

so if 5 psi is 5 psi i understand that then the question i need to ask is how much hp will our engines hold actually cuz i udnertand but i am concerned of if 5 psi will be too much to make 250 hp on my engine and blow it up hehe lolz so what is the max hp our engines could hold without any engine work stock

thanks i really need this car should be coming out soonnn when i think its safe or have enough $$ to rebuild engine

You're not going to make 250 hp w/ 5 psi.

lolz i know i was just giving a number but what is the max that our carls will hold cuz with super 16g people boosting 8 and are scared of going 9 psi cuz too much power to stock engine i just don't want it to happen to me with this big turbo on 5 psi that is why i am taking precautions

It is not psi that makes power. It is CFM that makes power. More flow = more power. To keep it simple, that turbo will not build 5 psi boost till 5K rpm or so. 5-7K it will be a monster.

My suggestion is to put in larger injectors than stock. Use the 30LB if you do not have money for 500cc/S-AFC/4:1 Vortech disc-ring setup(just my suggestions with that 60-1). I suggest putting in a 10:1 fmu disc/ring with the 30LB injectors. I think you could boost 6-7 psi safely with that setup. Watch your egt at the top of 3rd/4th gear. If you get it to 1500-1550 degrees at 7000rpm, I would call that good.

I hope you have a testpipe and at least 2.5 inch exhaust. That turbo is going to make boost at a much lower air temp than a 16G, so detonation will be less of a factor with a descent intercooler.

BTW: my suggestions were assuming this was on a star turbo kit(fmu etc.). If you have other fuel management, then disregard most of my post.

5 psi will be just fine bro. I'm running 8 psi on my star kit so you'll be fine if you have the stage 2 then you can do 8 psi too if you want

Did you see the size of his turbo? look again

Yes he could probably get away with 8 psi, but he does not have the same turbo as you and it will require more fuel at the same level of boost. I personally would never run stock injectors with a 60-1 and definately not at 8 psi if I had stock injectors. I do not think using a 12:1 fmu disc would give enough fuel pressure for stock injectors at even 5 psi. You will be too lean!!!!!!!

hey waht is 12:1 fmu disc ???????????

i knwo that is what i am scared of too much shit will blow well do you guys thing gst injector a good upgrade and what willbe a good fuel pump

and with injectors and fuel pump will it be enouggh to run rich on 5 psi on that turbo ???

thanks for the info guys i feel now more confident that this will work ok and not blow up

oh and what is that vortech stuff please teach me i need to learn this before i start usign my car

If you don't know what a FMU is, you need to enlist the help of some local friends or a shop. Building a good fuel system takes thought and experience. Here is Vortech's page about the FMU and S-FMU:
http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/accessories/fuel.html
Here are some pages that discuss fuel system design:
http://www.geocities.com/vttalon/tech.html
Skim over some of those pages and then enlist some local help. And GS-T injectors won't just drop in to our cars (the coil resistance on the injector is wrong).

I can't believe that you got a turbo and are having it installed, but decide to ask these questions now. YOu should have done a lot more research before buying the thing so as to know what it is and what it does.

I agree. Their is going to be extra maintenance involved and I can almost guarantee that you will have something break that you will need to address which I doubt you will be prepared for if you start probing the limits of you turbo setup. These are questions you should have considered before having a large turbo installed. That being the case, it is obviously too late as you are already at the install stage. I would recommend you pay the most attention to Corbins post.

There is not always a magical number that will make the difference as every engine is slightly different and every person has a slightly different setup. I would recommend you just stick with 5psi for quite a while until you learn a LOT more about your car and turbo theory in general. I doubt you will deal with too many problems at only 5psi if the turbo is installed and tuned correctly.

One last thing. Consider proofreading your messages for both sentence structure and spelling. They are very difficult to follow.

do more research before you install a TURBO! it's in YOUR best interest not ours.. a turbo install is not a 10min job, and also you got to know more about your engine before boosting it... do a search read up ALL the info relating to turbos, fuel, a/f etc then wait another 1-2 months asking friend or whatever not who knows about turbos etc... a turbo is not a put on thing and just go, soon enough it will be put on thing and NOT be going anywhere car...=)

Mr. Dsmlights,

Whats wrong with crawling before you run? You remind of Maggy Simpson for some reason.
