Well guys i think i have surpassed the decision for all show. It would make me, and my car, feel better if i got a new engine and rebuilt it. So waddya guys suggest? I am decinately going turbo with the introduction of NER (You da man!) and will prolly put a kit on layaway right as soon as i buy the engine. I shoul dbe safe building a blown engine right? I would be bringing it to a shop and having everything bored, low compression, all that fun shiite. And would it be safe to plop the turbo kit in at the same time as the new engine? Just take it easy on teh boost until all the seals n watnot settle? Thanks in advance as these answers will help me decide where my funds are going for the next year or so :)

It is best to break in the motor before you put the turbo kit in. After a rebuild, there are a lot of shavings and other metal crap that gets kicked around. It is best to run the oil through the motor for a few thousand miles before you put in a turbo to have it's bearings destroyed by the crap in the oil. In other words, after a rebuild, don't use a turbo right away that you will want to keep for a while...

Actually,

If you have the turbo you might as well assemble everything outside of the car and drop it in as it is far easier to deal with. You will be fine. Break in periods are not extreme in new engines these days anyway.

On a side note, (rhetorical question not needing an answer) why are you people so excited about layaway? That is something Wal-mart does to make people impulse buy stuff they can not afford. Just a thought.

that helps alot actually.....now i can focus all my monies on the rebuild and once it is all done then i will worry about the kit. Now how about some help as far as optimal engine building...ie proper bore n whatnot....tia

Let your engine builder concern himself with that when the time comes and the two of you discuss what you want. If he has to ask and has no idea where to get the info, he probably should not be building your engine.

good call....as far as the layaway deal....I, as well as many others, have problems saving money....when i get a good deal i will start thinking bodykits, paintjob, etc. With the layaway i can send money in when i can and not worry about spending it on other stuff.

haha with me it's the other way around when I have money it goes towards performance mods instead of the "make my car pretty" fund. Haha I need to start going the other way soon...
