24471, NEED HELP! Turbo for my 1995 GS eclipse Posted by gilee_8, Jun-13-02 12:46 AM
Sup guys. Sorry if I am being stupid around here. but I really dont' know ANYTHING about turbo or adding turbo to my eclipse. My car is a 1995 Non-turbo GS eclipse. And I really want to add the turbo to my car.. Ever since I raced with a Celica before he smoked me completely. I really need to konw how. I mean, what parts do I need to get? like completely waht parts? Exhaust? fuel injection? do I just add the turbo? or do I need to upgrade other things first? Please tell me a list of all the things I need to do, so I can start off buying some of them first. Thanks guys!

First of all start here... http://www.2gnt.com/dcforum/DCForumID36/103.html
That will explain the differences between the 2 MAJOR turbo kits available for our cars. Once you have decided what you want, do a search for "rebuild". There will be tons of posts about rebuilding the bottom end before turboing.
You are lucky you are new, if you had been here a while I would have replied with the following...

But since you are new, I will try to help you out. :)

Personally I have the star stage 2 and I love it. You do not have to buy a Hahn turbo kit. There is Hahn (www.turbosystem.com/), Star (www.turbogs.com/products/eclipse&talon.htm) and now NER (www.newedgeracing.com/Store/Catalogs/turbokits_catalog.htm) All 3 kits have their merits. It is a matter of who you talk to as to which is the best. (we are not getting into this, and do NOT ask which is better) Do a little research, talk to whoever is going to do the install and find out if they have ever done any of the kits. I went with Star because the guys that did the install have done 3 or 4 star kits and were very comfortable with the install and did not even need the instructions. Do some research, the info is out there. JUST DO NOT ASK!!!! If you do you will get the following reply:

Thanks man. But still, do I really have to buy a WHOLE turbo kit? or can I just buy parts seperately? I mean, waht parts do I exactly need for adding a turbo to my GS eclipse? anythign to upgrade and add?
Thanks again.

What you are talking about is a custom setup. Check this out... http://www.2gnt.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=95&forum=DCForumID36&viewmode=all
That should be all you need to know.

with the ammount of knowledge you have and I take it that you don't have manny mehcanical skills I say stay away from trying to build a custom kit. just buy one that is already there for you. That way you will not have to worry about making an exhaust manifold, bending pippes, oil lines, an fittings, vc1/2 controler, fuel pump, fmu or fpr, etc, etc.
