2434, Splitsec ESC1? Posted by talonESIT, Mar-06-01 05:49 AM
I was looking at the Splitsec web page and came across the ESC1. It says that it is used for engines that have been modified with a forced induction system. It hooks up in line from the O2 sensor and to a vaccum line comming off the intake manifold. When the O2 sensor picks up the engine is getting boost the ESC1 shows the ECU an open loop. I'd read what they said for the more technical terms. Do you guys think this would be benifical to our engines?

LAST EDITED ON 06-Mar-01 AT 01:26 PM (PST)Perhaps. It seems to me that it would be a bigger help for the OBD2 guys than for myself. It would basically trick the computer into switching to open loop operation. it might get rid of the annoying check engine light some of the OBD2 guys get under boost.
That is, if it will work for US.
I believe the ECU in our cars reads the throttle posistion sensor and MAP sensor to determine its loop mode, as there are better indications of a WOT (where the ECU, as far as i know, actually operates in open-loop) whereas the O2 sensors are only checked for emissions and fuel trim. I think it would actually interfere with the operation of an air/fuel ratio gauge, as they read O2 sensor voltages.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Your right about the OBD2 part. I don't think it would help out the earlier cars. With the A/F gauge, you'd run it before the ESC1 to ensure that your gauge still gave you a proper reading. Splitsec says this is more for mid-throttle than for wide open throttle. The VC1 would take care of fuel problems at that point and the ESC1 is supposed to help with fuel of mid throttle.

hmmm. I beleive our cars go into open loop above 3500rpm ( at least my 98 does) Thats when I notice my O2 Voltage stops bouncing or when I go over about 25% throttle. So, the ESC1 seems it would just put our cars in open loop faster? I guess I don't really see this as a gain for us. Splitsec does have a fuel converter much like the AFC, its just not as snazzy. REally? open loop above 3200 rpms? Weird..
On my car, it only goes open loop when I go WOT (70% throttle)...
something wrong with my car???
