24181, what do you guys think flows more than the 20G Posted by dsmlights, Jun-09-02 07:49 AM
alright guys this is the deal i am making a custom kit i am getting help from my fellow DSM Club MIAMI DSM , well the deal is that the HRC kit says its safe to boost 7 pounds or 8 with FMIC the prob is the turbo i am getting is a 20G well flows more than the 20G and stock it was custom made comes with actuator that boost 7 to 9 psi so i am scared taht i am going to blow my engine with 7psi since flows more what could i do to make my car boost less, i read somewhere that the FMIC makes you loose 2 pounds of boost i don't know how much true that is.
now my question is what could i do to keep it down i don't wanna be agresive i got 90K on my car and after the turbo will take another month to get the internals, so i also heard to make my BOV open up to create a boost leak what do you guys think about it?
is that safe please or can i do something to the turbo to make it boost less
hey and by the way alain please give me a call or give me ur ## so i can talk to you get my custom manifold made i wanted a manifold that will tuck the turbo down like stock gst not showing up on top i don't want people to see how big the turbo is :)
thank guys

If the wastegate is 7 psi what you can do is hook you wastegate actuator vacuum to the compressor outlet and NOT the manifold. That way you won't be compensating for the pressure loss. So if the FMIC looses 2 psi that should be fine at 5psi. BTW don't purposely make a boost leak. It will be slow still and you won't hit full boost till like 6K if ever.

hey tanks for the info but i am really not relaly smart with cars i am just learning my way so could you explain that a lil more why not to the manifold and why so to the other thing :) hehe lolz
thanks

well its really a custom turbo its a garrete turbo and mitsu put together its a garrete turbo but mitsu flange i thingk to bolt on to mitsy manifold they say its a MUT3 or 1 i am not really sure i just know it has a big wheel and flows more than a 20G well they say ummm i get the turbo thursday ok ill take a picture of it and show it to you guys its sweet but i need some info to see if alain could make the manifold i want if not someone that could plezzzz i want the turbo to be at the bottom i do not want everyone to see how big it is
So what doyou guys think it willbe too big of a turbo but its a beauty ported and everything guys cost 1400 but we bought 4 so we got for 800 a piece since one of the guys is like a good friend of the maker of the turbo but getting off that i need some ideas guys for the manifold can someone help alainnnn plezzz you the man make my manifold i got the $$ hehe lolz i need manifold to boost
thanks ,

Instead of running the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the wastegate run it from the compressor side of the turbo. That way when you hit 7 psi in the compressor side the wastegate will open. And hopefully you have some pressure loss before the air gets into the engine.

The best thing you can do is sell that turbo to somebody else and put that money towards a HRC stage 2 turbosystem.

ummm why is it bad for my car
the prob is if i buy hrc i know i wanna go more stuff bov and boost more and all of that so i just think get everything i want now and then so id ont' ahve to buy parts extra like i wanna be able to run 11 or 10s in future and that turbo is a beauty just give me some feed back if you think its no good for car then i might do it give me some views please.
PS anyone selilng a FMIC needing it really bad

well, the main thing is that a mutt level 3 (if the compressor does outflow the 20G) will more than likely be hella laggier than the 20G, and unless it is using say anything bigger than a t04E 50 trim wheel is going to be an inefficient mix-match for any smaller turbine that you would want to use on the car for stret use. Beyond that, even if the turbine is sized correctly, mutt turbos and the like are usu "clipped" by local turbo "genious" shops that think that cutting on anything makes it better.......it doesn't :(. SCC magazine proved that in black and white on the july issue. adn to make matters even wworse, I am not sure how Hahn racecraft does it nowk but I am 100% sure that back in the day if you wanted a "good" bov with your turbo system, all it took was a simple "hey, can I get the greddy type-s bov instead of the standard vr-4 bov" over the phone, and that is the God's honest truth ath nobody wants to admit. on top of that, you can get a GOOD SIZED front mount intercooler from them with piping and all with the turbo system (their intercooler is even bigger than my greddy Large core intercooler) and their cores have been proven to work for years. And even if you wanted to buy the hard parts first like a large turbo, fmic, bov, and such first, you woudl STILL be better off, because I am pretty sure you can get a 20G in the turbosystem for a little extra instead of the 16G, and as a matter of fact, you might be able to even get the 25G instead of the 16 if you are really really desperate for power. all of this on a turbo system that has been tested and proven that "bolts up" to you car that doesn't require experimentation, fiddiling with, or anny of that silly stuff that gives new tuners headaches. as you can see, HRC really does have abotu every askepct of buying a turbosystem for a 2gnt covered, adn it is really just silly to make a "custom" turbo kit with any expectation of cahieving even close to the same result in the long run because fo the quality fo your materials. I can't think of one "custom" manifold that has been on a 2gnt for over a year that hasn't cracked, or thta has been proven to outflow hrc's short manifold. I applaud yoru efforts to try to be innovative in makign yoru own system, but this is even comeing from ME, the guy that can't do ANYTHING original.......making a custom turbosystem for a car with "good" aftermarket support like the 2gnt is a waste fo time, and is only goign to give you an excuse as to why you wont' be running big boost sooner. plus a new HRC FMIC and new 20G turbo will outperform a used "custom" turbo with a stock straion intercooler anyday......if you are shooting for the stars, target prctice with tin cans won't help you much.
