23926, wondering what could be causing my higher EGT's

Hello all, i have another peculiar situation.
Well after the rebuild in which i swapped the 10.5 to 8.8 pistons, the Total seal rings for JE rings, a new head gasket, 2 lifters that went bad, all the bearings, and installed the programmable DIS2, a funny thing is happening, my egt's are on average 50 to 100 degrees F higher than before. Now this is only in vacuum operation cause i am still breaking the mother in. I readjusted my AFC so that my LTFT is all near -2% across the board, it does go to like +- 8% when the rpm's are higher (>3500). I have 440 cc RC injectors and a SFMU running the 2.22 disk, which i believe is a 2.5 rise rate. the funny thing is that with the 10.5 to 1 compression my egt's were fine actually lower than normal. I was under the impression that since the msd produces multiple sparks it is burning more of the gas in the cylinder which in turn is producing more heat. this is what i am getting. idle is ~900 where before it was 850, cruise at 70 on a flat road is like 1350 where it used to be 1250.
What can i do to lower my egt's? i have some bkr7e's that i have not put in, i am currently using Silverstone plugs, but i was using them before. will this lower EGT's any? what could be causing this?
Thanks
James

the spark plugs might have something to do with it, but if i had to make a guess...here is what i think. with the 8.5:1 compression, in vaccum, your car is making LESS power than it did with the 10.5:1 pistons, so you are having to push the pedal just a taaaaad bit farther to go the same speed, thus making your EGT's slightly higher. thats my guess, could be TOTALLY wrong(probably is knowing me) but it sorda makes sense.

My temps are the same as yours. The only difference is I have a little lower compression, 8.6:1. I have junk plugs in at the moment and I do notice a little higher egts w/ them. I would guesstimate that when I have the NGK's in I run about 50-75 cooler.

I noticed a + change in temp when I put my Crane on, but I only see a higher temp at WOT (about 100 hotter)?

I also noticed a - change in temp when I took off my egr valve. I saw about 100 cooler at all times, idle and WOT.?

I would say try the plugs first.

Way off your subject (sorry) but where did you get that heat shield from? Did you make it? How much $$$ would I need to donate to the make James’s car really fast fund to get one of those?:)

Brian,
I made that thing, it is 6061-T6 aluminum, 1/8 in thick plate with 3 layers of thermotec heat shield riveted to it. it bolts on th the 2 upper turbo mount studs. I am thinking of making a few of them, but honestly i have not had time. i have the template and everything made. i was thinking like 25 or 30 bucks for it cause that thermotec wrap is some expensive stuff!
i'll let you know when i get time to makes some, i've had alot of people asking me about it.

Sounds like a possible money making opportunity for you, James. I would DEFINITELY buy one today if you had them made.

Let me know when you get around to it.
