23839, Took apart the Cartech FPR......

Well i had enough with my fuel pressure problems, and decided, what the hell...Took it out, and disassembled it. Man, that thing does have cheap looking parts, esp the diaphrams. They were in pretty crappy looking shape, at least it looked like they were anyway. Parts of it were stiff, while others were softer. I found an oil like substance on the thin metal reed valve inside there, so i cleaned that off. I used carb cleaner on that, then i used the cleaner on the diaphrams, soaked them really good, and sprayed off any residue to get them nice and clean. Put it all back together, then reinstalled it. PRESTO!! My boosted pressure reaches about 90 psi @ 5 pounds of boost, which is much better than the 130+ psi i was getting before. Of course now, my idle static pressure is not steady now :rolleyes I had to adjust it many times, and is finally holding somewhat at 50 psi. Man, the car pulls so much better now, but i still can feel some fluctuation on the pressure, the car sometimes pulls hard, sometimes bogs just ever so slightly, loosing a little power it seems..Hopefully this will hold for a week or so until i recieve the Vortech S-FMU. What the hell was HRC thinking of using a such a crappy FPR for their kits? Seems like they do well for about a year of use, then they get out of whack..Well, at least its much better for now! Thanks for the help from you guys :)

I guess HRC had one thing in mind........SAVING COSTS!!!! If you don't get the SFMU, pray it doesn't rain (not cool) when you start the car, then all of a sudden....BBOOOMMM.....your idle FP goes to like 85 like me. My car was studdering like it was gonna die. DAMN THAT CARTECH FPR!!!!

And when you drive around boosting with your idle at 85psi, you get the added bonus of fuel starvation, detonation, and a broken engine like me. :thumbsup

Ya know, if HRC had marketed it's kit as the "economy" turbokit, I'd be less frustrated. I was kinda hoping I'd get premium parts from a company that does extensive tests to find the "best turbo system".
