23631, thinkin of rebuild, need some info on rods and pistions Posted by carolinacat, Jun-02-02 03:59 AM
hey guys i was washin my car today and when i was done i went to move it and i heard a strange sound, when i ever so slightly started to move or started to rev. upon further investigation i figured out it is or what i belive to be a knock in the piston to rod area. it does not sit there and knock away, but only when you start to rev the engine and only so slightly, the car only has around 58k but i was hell on the car the last 20k before the turbo. so im thinkin to put a set of rods and pistons in it. stock bore of course. i need to put a timing belt on it anyway so now ill just do it all at the same time. my question is where can i get forged stock bore, stock compression pistions. i remember someone posting about this before but i couldnt find it with the search.

I wouldnt think it would be the pistons making noise. It doesnt seem likely. Do a compression test to see whats up with the pistons.

You can special order the stock compression ratio from Howell automotive to go along with their bottom end kits instead of the compression ratios that they keep in stock. Call them to find out the correct pricing on special ordered pistons because I think they are a little more than the bottom end kits they keep in stock.
