does anyone make a stainless steel turbo manifold for either of the turbo kits? i dont expect that anyone does but i want one. i hate the exhaust manifolds for both kits, and what they were thinking when designing them that unattractively is beyond me. i know most of you are in california so you probably have better references, do you know of any shops that will make a manifold for the star turbo? i would be willing to pay you for it, but chances are if someone was gonna make one they would give you one for the test-subject and sell the rest. or a local metal shop could make one, anybody got a friend that can do this for me and what do you think it costs (the supra single turbo stainless mani costs $1400)

Something like this would definately be a custom job.
I dont know if you are familiar with "RevHard". they make
turbo kits for hondas. I have one of their 420A turbo manifolds
that im using on my car. Im certain if you called them up
and asked them to make you a stainless steel manifold, they'd
do it. This might run in excess of $600...Give it a try.

which turbo do you have? the hahn or star? did the manifold mate to your turbo or did you have to have it modified to make it fit? because if it was modified i doubt RevHard can make me one because theu would need the actual car i think to get all the measurements, and im in georgia

The reason SS manifolds are rare is becuase unless you use hard to work with super thick SS they are prone to cracking under the weight/stress of carrying a turbo (at least tubular ones). I dont know how many times I've come across a seller of a SS manifold for other cars with adds containing "one small crack here" or "tiny crack there". Cast iron is more reliable.

HRC's exhaust manifold IS stainless steel. The "typical" difference between steel and iron is that stainless steel is an iron that has been reformulated. It also typically has properties to better withstand heat, corrision...etc.

Of course, we all know that there are "better" new-improved steels and irons out there.

HRC has already announced that they have NEVER heard of an instance of and HRC manifold cracking. Given the frequencyI hear of 4g63 guys who talk about cracked manifolds, that's quite nice to hear.

actually i was looking for a tubular manifold or either a stainless regular mani, but HRCs doesnt look very good. obviously stars is ugly, but HRCs is stainless? i dont know what kind of stainless steel that is, but you should be seeing a reflection in it. i dont think chrome would stay on an exhaust manifold either. opinions?

I don't know why the manifold is that color instead of shiny. I think SS manifolds ARE supposed to be that color though.

When I was taking my car around to various machine shops to have my EGT guage installed, one particular machinist knew right away it was stainless steel upon a five second visual to which he replied he couldn't tap it for me b/c his tap wasn't strong enough. Of course, I eventually found someone to tap it.

Well,

keep in mind the kind of temps you will be facing will melt most of anything right off of there. Even if it was shiny when you started, it wouldn't be when you were done. A good person to talk to would be Joe A. he actually had all his stuff coated. IT was shiny for a short while, but that didn't last - check his website and check with him as well.

BTW there was no intent to emply Hahns manifold was prone to cracking (didn't even know it was stainless steel) but a lot of 4G63 owners wont use aftermarket stainless steel manifolds due to high rates of cracking. The stock 4G63 manifold is also known to crack (at least the 1G) and its Cast iron. Go figure.
