23174, finished rebuild, something peculiar!
Posted by jamesman, May-27-02 04:15 AM
Hey all,
I finished rebuilding my engine on saturday and went for a drive. I put 8.8 pistons in, previously i had 10.5. what i noticed now is that my egt's are about 150 degrees higher on average. when i go to a lower compression am i supposed to lean the fuel curve out? or should i be expecting to add more fuel. i leaned it out a little bit and noticed that the egt's went down. i think that the msd programmable dis-2 due to its multiple sparks is causing after-burn when i was running rich. so i am going to try to lean it out a little more and take readings with my datalogger. also i got a 2 bar map sensor and the damn plug doesen't fit, the tabs on the plug are in the wrong freaking place, i'm gonna re-slot the plug to fit the sensor, anyone have this happen before?
thanks
james

Thats odd I would think that if you dropped compresion your egts would be lower im curious as to what it is myself.

why did you lower your compression??? I would think being at 10.5 would have its positives.

glad your back up and running! i had the same problem with my 3 bar msd map sensor, the damm plugs are not slotted right, i just cut new slots in the plugs where needed.

i put the 8.8 in because the 10.5's were hitting my head DOH! well, i just broke the tabs off inside the map sensor to fit the stinkin plug in it. it worked. i datalogged the car and found that my long term fuel trims were all wacked after the piston swap. so i redialed them in and the egts are a little lower. its been hot so i have had the AC on and that my be causing it. do EGT's rise if your AC is on? gonna check it out again later and see if i can find anything new.
thanks
james
