2218, sheet metal intake manifolds
Posted by Jason 95 GS Turbo, Mar-01-01 12:52 AM
Anyone else interested in a sheet metal intake manifold? I'd like to get one with 8 injector bosses so i can have a staged injector setup. As you may know, i should be getting a haltech E6K to run my car, and was thinking it would be alot more street able if i could get it to run staged injectors. like a set of 235's for off boost operation, and a set of 550's for boost. if i go about getting one made, would anyone else be interested? or does anyone know a shop that could make a quality one?

A shop by me can make them (Canada mind you, but you can save on the exchange). They make them for the 4g63 but I don't see why they wouldn't do one for the 420a if your willing to pay. It's a pretty cool design, check it out it's under "latest news".

oh yes...that awesome 4g63 ppl in Central Canada!!! grrrrrr

out here in the FAR west, not much specialists :(

Anyhow, in order to run staged injectors, what will be required to run them?

A stand alone system and or maybe the ACCEL but not sure. Bill could answer that one.

I have a haltech E6K standalone ordered as we speak...the place i ordered it from f'd up my order like a month ago, or i would have it now. I wanna get 310's and a 550's. Should be lots of fun to tune!!! I can't wait...note the sarcasm...

I have been thinkning about a custom intake manifold for a while...
dunno how streetable it would be though..

Anyway here's a link that might help you:

Len sent me a pic of his Intake Manny. His designed his and HRC assembled it for him. These mannies look GOOD, I'm sold. I would do the same thing. Get the pieces/design and pay HRC(preferrable or someone) to assemble it. Jason are you game? drop me some mail

I am definitely game...I think i will have a lot easier of a time tuning my haltech for idle and off boost operation if i can use smaller injectors for that and big ass ones for squirtin under boost. I have heard that 440's are probably the biggest you can go and still cut back pulse width enough to gain a good steady idle with low emmissions...believe me...i am trying to do this so it at least will pass all of the numbers on the smog test. visual might be another story, but PA isn't too strict.

The other reason, is because i know the haltech will work real well with the ISC controller in the 4g63 throttle body, so i want to get a manifold that can bolt up that throttle body, and i'll save myself the headache of doing that.

I am definitely game...

I might be crazy for all of this, especially since i don't have built internals yet...but that is ok...those ain't all that much work to be done...I'd rather get my setup done so all i would have to do is slap some internals in and crank up the boost controll on the haltech. We'll see how it all goes i guess...

If you could send me that pic of len's intake that would be great. do you know if he runs staged injectors?

Keep the momentum going on this guys. You know how it is. Pave the way and if it works with results, others will follow! (i.e. AFX underdrive pulley)

the magnus (www.magnusmotorsports.com) manifold is a really cool design, its a two piece design that lets you change the length of the runners by changing the silicone couplings that are used for the runners. these also act like phelonic spacers that isolate the manifold from the heat of the engine

Hey Jason,

About how you want to run injectors, you have the right idea, but I think you should be thinking larger. The main reason to do 8 is if you are making SERIOUS power and need SERIOUS injectors. Otherwise, IMO, you are throwing money away. And when I say big, I mean at least 500hp and 700cc injectors, and I consider that to be on the small side. Then this plan would be much more feasible. You would do something like 440small and 800large. Something like that. And you would be making 600-800hp. Otherwise, I do not think the benefits are really worth having 8 injecotrs. Mainly because 625's can be made to idle properly with the haltec and that will support you well into the 400hp range. Just some thoguhts. Good luck with the manifold too. I am interested to hear what comes out of this.

It would appear to me that you are after Tremedous amounts of horsepower, since you will go back to the 230cc injectors in low boost situations.

Here's what you can do for about a fraction of the cost:

1. Purchase 1 or 2 very large injectors about 900cc
2. Purchase a GReddy RebicIII AIC(additional injector controller)

Now you can keep your stock manifold, and your stock injectors.
And when you start hitting up higher boost, the RebicIII will
start kicking in the additional injector(s) for more fuel.
With this type of setup you probably would not need to even get the stand alone system. All you need to do is calculate how much power you will be making and the fuel to accomade for it.

Good luck, and keep us updated !

I'ver never heard of the RebicIII but a larger intake manny would still help increase air flow

Greddy makes RebicIII and RebicIII simulator, they are hella $$$ tho ($900 for both at least.) all what it does is to control the additional injectors you have (you can have up to 4 I think) it has it's own map to determain how much fuel to put (you have a full control over the fuel curve tho.) I have them both on my GS-T, used them for a while, but then went ahead and got 550s and AFC since they are easier to tune. RRE uses rebicIII to control the extra 4 injectors they have mounted on the inake manifold (very nice) my additonal injector is mounted on the TB elbow tho. they are almost like a stand alone fuel computer.

ah rebicIII is the actual control unit, rebicIII simulator is just an add on to it for fine tuning.

here is where I have them mounted along with turbo timer and boost control (all Greddy)

2233, MF2 Injector controller

For anyone who wants to add injectors for whatever reason, take a
look at this:

The MF2 (Map Fueler 2) supposedly costs around $300
http://www.aquamist.co.uk/cp/mf2/mf2.html

I have actually seen this little black box do its magic. A
mechanic friend of mine back home (Cyprus) uses one to control a
whole bunch of additional injectors for a custom Turbo kit he
made for a BMW M3... :-) What turbo did he use? A Turbonetics
T76..there's something about a turbo that makes my Super16G look
tiny...

I am pretty sure that it can control as much as 6 additional
injectors (four high-impedance injectors and two low-impedance
injectors), and I do know for SURE though that it does 3D fuel
maps. It is not computer tuned however. It is more a tune-it,
shut it and leave it.

An advantage of using it is also that you can now use the
stock injectors of a GST/GSX which can be obtained for less than
$50 (for all 4 of them :).

Combined with our stock injectors that would make 600+ cc
injectors. You could tune the MF2 and then do the precise fine
tuning from the SAFC for even more versatility.

Think about it, about $350 you have 4 more 450cc injectors and a
high tech Fuel unit to tune them with. Good deal? Hell yeah...

Take a look.. If anyone is interested I can find some more info
about it.

We have considered it. I can see a lot of what you fellas would look for in one on this thread.

Frankly, my RS needs a bigger turbo and intercooler; it's time to up the ante again. These items will only need more fuel and airflow in the intake area...

YEah, some one posted about this a while ago..

how would we mount the additional injectors if we were to use this?

At least this way, it can keep the car running good on off boost conditions..

well I have my extra injector mounted on the IC piping closer to the TB. but I know the best way to mount 4 of them is to mount them on the 4 runners with either new sheet metal intake, or modifing your intake manifold to take them along with an additional fuel rail.
