What is water injection?
Has anybody ever installed a water injection kit on a ?

Water injection is a venerable technique for achieving all kinds of
good things in the engine by lowering the combustion temperatures.
This has a cooling effect on the intake air charge, which increases
power and reduces the possibility of knock. This has the same effect
as adding extra fuel to the mixture without sacrificing fuel economy.
Additionally, less fuel (a leaner mixture) in itself reduces the
possibility of detonation. A nice side effect is that the water tends
to keep the engine cleaner, whereas extra fuel can actually leave
more carbon deposits behind.

The theory is simple: water is atomized into the intake air stream,
and is included in the air/fuel mixture burned in the cylinders.
Since the cooling effect is not typically needed in everyday driving,
the injection system is normally activated by a pressure switch that
activates at a preset boost level. The injection point is either just
before the throttle butterfly or before the turbocharger, depending
on the exact setup. The water is sometimes mixed with alcohol or
other fluids.

Downsides to water injection include having to keep water in the
tank, and the possibility that a malfunctioning valve might put too
much water into the engine, causing serious damage. However, the
technique has been around since the 1940s and the risks are arguably
no more serious than relying on an over-rich fuel mixture to provide
the required cooling effect.

Unfortunately, nobody makes a DSM-specific water injection system;
several vendors offer generic versions. Speculation on the subject
has been wide and varied over the years, but few people have actually
installed such a kit on their cars. Many people regard it as old
technology, while others class it with NOS injection as an 'unfair'
system. This lack of practical knowledge and a proper bolt-on kit for
DSMs has kept the technique from wide application.
Water injection has recently drawn more attention in the Talon
Digest, partly because a group buy for the Spearco WI kit has drawn
all the WI users out of the woodwork. There is also a little-known
DSM Water Injection Home Page for interested parties. You should also
scour issues from January to mid-February 1999 for DSM-specific
information.

Related to, but separate from, the water injection systems is the
intercooler sprayer, which sprays water or other coolant directly on
the intercooler to help it do it's job. This system provides only
minor benefits but is simple, cheap and failsafe, and may be rigged
with a pressure switch to activate it during high boost.

My friend who has a nissan 200 SER has a t3/t04 turbo with water injected and he told me he doesnt even have je piston and rods and he's boost'n 18 psi he's running mid 12's and i asked him about it but he told me he doesn't think they have one for our car, i wanted to mention it on this board but i didn't even know if he was telling the truth.

I didn't even know anything about water injected, ive heard of fuel injected hehe anyways i guess he was telling the truth, but i do know hes cars fast i raced him before i was squezzing 50 shots back then and i lost i dont even know by how much but i know it was bad and he had 3 people in the car hehe

Who else makes a water injection kit? might be good for our engine life during boost?

Stock Nissan 200-240se engines can easily bolt on turbo and run up to 20psi with no problems. Why, because when the japs imported them here all they took out was the turbo, so everything else is stock. That's why your friend is able to run high boost.

I believe that water injection systems are pretty much universal, just like a NOS kit would be...basically you tap into a pipe, install a nozzle and thats it..

They also make the MF2, a fuel controller that is supposedly very good. Something about 3D fuel maps..

whoa that's really cool. How much does one of these water injection kits cost and where can we get em? I'm all for engine life cool operation.
