21940, How much does our ecu advance timing?

Has anyone datalogged their turbo'd cars to see how many degrees our ecu is advancing timing under boost, if any? I'd like to have a general idea as to how much to retard the timing on my Crane TRC-2? Thanks!

I don't know about a turbo car, but NA they seem to be advancing around 20 to 22 degrees.

I've seen 40+ in datalogs before. Usually that under no load of any kind though.

Wow, that's a lot of timing advance! I wonder if this has anything to do with engines blowing - with sufficient fuel - when running 8-10 psi daily. When my engine went, I know I had sufficient fuel: air/fuel, fuel pressure, egt, all looked good. If our ecu advances timing like that, turbo'd people are probably experiencing a lot of engine knock and detonation. Just a thought.

no load = no boost = no knock. Or something like that. Under load I've seen 20-25 degrees of advance.

at WOT in every gear, timing stays at 15 degrees. That is as low as the ECU can go.

DSMRoadster, yes, I've rebuilt my engine;basically, with the Howell Automotive bottom end kit. Are you going to do the rebuild yourself, or are you taking it to a shop? Anyway, you definitely need another means of transportation during the rebuild process.

Also, expect the rebuild to take a little longer than any estimated time of completion, just because you never know what you'll run into when the engine is disassembled. You might discover that a certain might need to be replaced, and some part(s) might break during the process.

If you are going to do the rebuild yourself, or with someone, just make sure that you have all the tools before you start, for example: pulley pullers, measuring instruments, a service manual, etc; otherwise, just have a lot of patience and always expect the unexpected.
