21931, is 5psi, no intercooler, safe for my car? Posted by EclipSeRs99, May-11-02 06:43 PM
i have a star stage 1 turbo kit, no intercooler....and ive been boosting 5 psi for about a month now, no problems at all, no overheating or anything..but the thing is, i havent raced it that much, i probally floored it 8 times during the month...but now im gonna start racing it every weekend on only 5 pounds of boost, you think my engine will last the summer?

you should be fine. just keep a watch on your EGTs. and if you dont have an EGT gauge, get one!

Your never a 100% safe so getting an intercooler wouldn't be such a bad investment. My friend Angel, dsmnt96, messed up his motor just like I did and he was only boosting 5psi non intercooled but has been turbo'ed for about a year I believe. -Dave

I was boosting 8psi intercooled and in less than a month, it went BOOM. All the guages in the world can't help you. You'll just never know. Best part is I have less thank 60k on my car. Damn thing hasn't even gotten new timing belts yet or even made it to it's 60k mile service.
